Isn't that sort of like saying, "he can't be gay, he's married"?

In the event, such a man could be bi. Still not strictly gay, though.

I thought Funny People was Apatow's best film, which may not be saying much, but I would rather watch any Apatow film than the shitfest of The Hangover any day. Hangover had a great premise but totally shit the bed on the follow-through. The gay asian mobster is easily the worst character in a film since the guy with the lisp in The Hills Have Eyes II.

I do think the Leslie Mann comments from Oily Teez were pretty apt though. haha

I'd say Funny People was a 3/5 for me. I didn't regret seeing it in the theater.

I haven't seen Funny People but Mann is Apatow's wife so she wil likely be in everything he makes. Apparently the young girls in the film are their actual daughters...

Last night I saw Lost in Translation for the first time in 5 - 6 years. It's still really good.

he's made some web shorts with his daughter as the main character that are pretty hilarious...one called the landlord with Will Farrell...I can't find the video for some reason.

But quite a comedown from 17 Again. From playing MILF &/or Cougar to Zac Efron to having a bedroom scene with Adam Sandler.

Epic piece of dogshit. 30 minutes of plot crammed into 2 hours, with a stodgy piano piece substituting for thought, nuance or gravitas. Overwrought performances, zero connection with the characters, and a coda so obvious that they should have had Marlon Wayans pop up and scream "MESSAGE" as the old dude turns down his hearing aid.

Wow, we watched this last night and I agree - horrible movie. Kept waiting for SOMETHING to happen. What a waste of a evening.

Knowing was pretty terrible. Rose Byrne is totally wasted in this movie, just screaming like a maniac mostly. Nick Cage gives another blah performance and the kid who plays his son should never be allowed in another movie again. And the ending is even more ridiculous than The Happening. The only redeeming thing about it are the destruction scenes (airplane crash, train crash and the finale). I watched the airplane crash like 5 times in a row.

Saw Funny People recently. Typical Apatow flick. A few moments of funny before the movie starts to derail by the halfway mark.

The 10 year old in me from 1984 wants to go see G.I. Joe, but I don't know if I want to witness Hollywood killing another childhood icon of mine.

Not surprising, but I'm in complete disagreement with your take.

I thought it was a pretty powerful study of quiet, suburban desperation and I thought Leo turned in on of his best performances yet.

Totally depressing though.

Oh, I grasped what it was trying to do, I just didn't really think it achieved it's goals.

I gotta agree with Derris on Revolutionary Road, at least in that it was both depressing and not an epic pile of dog shit. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, but the movie itself was a well done document of behind the scenes of suburban utopia of 50s-60s.

I enjoyed it as well. I think the cinematography and atmosphere is really what I liked the best, but still, I thought that Leo was at least bearable in this role. The mood was similar to that of Virgin Suicides which, I thought also possessed a weird, suburban vibe.

I saw that this weekend too. Meh. It was funny but certainly did not live up to the hype. But god bless that Bradley Cooper. Bless his sexy soul.

I LOVED 500 Days of Summer. I would totally see it again.

The acting wasn't very good. Winslet especially. There was one semi-believable piece of dialogue/performance between the two of them, and that was in kitchen after they talked gegortion.

And to Derris' point: I bet Transformers 2, or the compunction to see it, says 1000 times more about the Desperation of Suburbia* than this dreck.

I'm assuming you're joking here. Popmatters actually had a pretty interesting article up last week about the hyping of this movie.

Basically, Paramount decided to not do screenings for traditional mainstream movie critics. Instead, they screened it for a few popular blog sites that traditionally go for these types of comic-book popcorn flicks.

They were also instructed that they were being give this privilege and that if they didn't like what they see, and wrote as such, they might find themselves shut out in the future.

The movie started getting positive reviews and had somewhere around 80-90% positive on Rotten Tomatoes before it's release.

Not surprisingly, after this weekends opening when all critics could view it, the reviews were vicious and it's now in the 30's on RT and Metacritic.

Maybe this is normal practice but it seemed pretty shady.
