Oh. No, I live in Chicago, but when that song was on the radio I was living in Boston.

Awesome. I knew I could trust Stacey to recollect the Matchbox clone.

Are Vertical Horizon one hit wonders? I guess so.

Vertical Horizon - definitely one-hit blunder.

But, that Nine Days song is awesome.

This is completely obvious, but hasn't been mentioned thus far:

Third Eye Blind - Semi-Charmed Life

Because they also had hits with "Graduate", "Jumper", "Never Let You Go", and "Losing A Whole Year". I probably forgot a few too.

I guess so, but nowhere near as ubiquitous as that song. I would personally consider them a one-hitter based on relativity to their major hit.

That's like saying that Nirvana are a one-hit wonder because "Smells Like Teen Spirit" was so much bigger than their other songs.

That's a fairly glib comparison but it's practically true. That song pretty much outweighs anything else they did when it came to chart action. What the hell were all those people shouting for when they went to Nirvana concerts? Fucking "In Bloom"? I don't think so. Yeah, Nirvana was pretty influential, but they were defined by "Smells Like Teen Spirit". It seems to me that their lead singer has some issues with that fact as well. Same with Third Eye Blind, when those 20 people showed up to their last show, they weren't going to hear "How's it Going to Be?"

I had no idea they had another number 1 hit with Jumper. I've never heard that song, I guess it didn't make a huge impact up here. They're a one hit wonder in my book. If you want to count any Billboard action at #81, go ahead.

i don't know if anyone said this one
but i thought that 1 song from
corrosion of conformity
something about "help me jesus help me clean my wounds"
& it had that kickass guitar riff
was a great one hitter

then there was this other 1 that actually has been on my mind lately and i don't know the band or the name but it came out around 95 or 96 i think
and the chorus went
"take away take away
take away this ball and chain"
there was more than that in the chorus but that all i remember and of course there were verses, an intro an all this but of what i remember it was a great lil' ditty...
if anyone knows this 2nd song let me know

Social Distortion - "Ball And Chain"? It actually came out in about 1990. Great song though by a great band. I guess "Story of My Life" was sort of a "hit" off that album as well.

no mention yet of the mighty mighty bosstones.
Sadly, there were three more "hits" on that record, but MCA screwed the pooch about as badly as is humanly possible and nothing more happened with them.

Christ, yes!
I was just thinking about that record after I typed that. Guess whose neighbors are gonna hear "Bronzing The Garbage" at about 1 a.m. tonight after he gets home from the bar, whether they like it or not?

Danzig also had that NIN rip-off "Cantspeak" a few years later. Anyone remember that?
