Really looking forward to this!

That's awesome. Post pics of the progress if you can.

(And maybe consider some non Fender parts, especially pickups. Or not.)

Depending upon what it will do to the price, I'm thinking that there may be a Seymour Duncan or two in the picture.
I'll have to talk it through with J.

Kyle, i've been thinking about it. You should be able to sell your mav on ebay with a BIN of what you paid for it. Maybe more on craigslist, since it's a lacquer maverick. Then you should turn around and invest in a stage one. They're like $950 new, for a solid 3x4. Designed by Bruce Zumsteg who made Zumsteel. Or get a GFI student model for a hair more, or shop around on the forum for one of those used.

It's time you had a 3x4 and a decent volume pedal to go with it, and don't give me any crap about how you're past the learning curve to use the volume pedal. It's fucking hard to do, but you keep doing it, and then one day you don't sound like a total tard with it. Same thing that happened to us both with picks, although the volume pedal thing took me a long time.

Now i'm desperately working on pick and palm blocking.

I'll say this, playing duets with kaitlin has gotten me sharp because her chords are all over the place. If you didn't download that album i coproduced for her, you should get it and try and play along.

I can't argue with it. I would hate to see the old Sho Bud go, because of the memories, but it's so incredibly limiting not to be able to do all the other stuff...

The other option is to take your bud to someone like Tommy Cass, and see what he can do to get your steel up to speed as a proper 3x4.

Tommy Cass at tcass@banet.net or call him at (978)632-5878

That's not his email adress. Something wrong with the domain. Where did you find him, Phil?

steel guitar forum, you could probably just pm him, he's moderately active, and sells some nice steels that go through his shop. Are you a member over there? if not, i can pm him and get his contact info for you.

That dark star bass is mad sexy.

Kyle, check your pm

If any bassists here are looking for a bass, i'm thinking of selling my 66 Gibson EB-0 (sg body) equipped with 2 darkstars.

PM received, and I emailed him. He's about 30 minutes further west than I drive for work, so if we act fast (while I still have the bike out) I could drop off at his place, no shipping. Fingers crossed.

The weber silver bell arrived, finally. That means I have all the pieces, except a piece of plywood for a new 1x12 baffle to replace the current 2x10 baffle. I did connect it with the Bell sitting on top of the amp, and hooooly fuckity does it sound better already. Like, better than I had hoped, and this with it sitting there tits-up in the open air. It's tight, smooth, clean, articulate, more bassy, less harsh, and just gottdam awesome already.

It came with 2 stickers and some sort of plastic bolt-on insignia -- the latter I think I will affix to the speaker cloth like an amp logo.

My steel is still over at the folks' house I have been playing with. But they haven't practiced in over a month, so now I have to have the awkward conversation about calling it quits I guess and getting my stuff, and quickly while I can still strap them (acoustic too) to the motorcycle before it snows. I have to send him pics of the guts and I don't have it to photograph.

i like that the "accessories you'll need" recommendation is a $19.99 piece of a crap stand.

As long as you're willing to put good pickups in it, no probably not. Teles in particular are so simple a design that there's not a shitload to go wrong. As long as the wood is decent (alder bodies are my favorite tone for fenders, fwiw), then there's almost nothing else to it. For everything but the pickups (quality of the frets, electronics, bridge mass, string-thru body instead of bridge, bone nut instead of plastic), you're talking about tiny, tiny, negligible differences in sound and playability.

I've never picked one of these up and played it, but I strongly suspect you could get one, toss some GOOD pickups in it, and have a killer workhorse that punches way above its weight class.

Went to the store to try that out, it looked and sounded like it's price. But as will happen in a store, something more expensive caught my eye and I went home with this

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/ ... ric-guitar

Wasn't outrageously more than I planned on spending and it sounded as good or better than more traditional tele's that were $200 more.

went to my friends house and we had ourselves a 4 hour guitar freak out like I haven't had since I was a teenager.

I'm in love.

The friend is a Fender nut with a few from the 60s and he too was in love.

is it really that weird to use pine? the internet seems torn on the subject.
I know very very little about electric guitars, in fact my friend had to explain what a humbucker is.
