Ol' Gar just made my day. Thanks for posting. He's been playing out a little more often over the last few months, but has only played a couple of new songs that I've heard. New album features Carl, Tommy and Pat from MMJ (Meow had Pat and Carl). He was tooling around Bonnaroo this weekend. Shit, he posted THIS on April 6. I'm obviously not up on my BBjr news!

For you cumtree fans:

Quote:
Heart of Texas Records is pleased to announce our latest release by the "Princess of Country Music" Georgette Jones. "Slightly Used Woman" is the first full album by the daughter of George Jones and Tammy Wynette. This twelve song CD is filled with great Traditional Country music performed by the only person to have both parents in the Country Music Hall of Famer.

Jones opens the album with a song penned by her mother. "Slightly Used Woman" is an autobiographical anthem about a woman looking for love after being "slightly used" by another man.

"This song has always been one of my favorite selections from my mother," Jones said. "It starts by describing our home on Franklin Road in Nashville and really speaks volumes about mom's songwriting ability. I just had to record this one for the album."

Jones also includes a song written in tribute to her mother. "I Hope You Knew" is a true letter in song to Tammy Wynette from her daughter. She also adds other classics from the Wynette catalog including "I Don't Wanna Play House" "Send Me No Roses" and "I Still Believe In Fairy Tales."

She honors her dad with his hit "The Race Is On." In a slightly faster style, Jones reprises the classic in appreciation to her father's contribution to her career. The two Joneses also duet on the previously released "You And Me And Time." The song tells the story of both George and Georgette finally finding each other after some seperation over time.

Jones also included some new material including "Second Time Around" written by Texan Brandi Davidson and the Kitty Wells classic "You Don't Hear." The album is then rounded out with her duet with Mark McGuinn "Better Painful Ending" and the gospel standard "Precious Memories."

Edit: However this sounds, she needs to sue somebody for the atrocity of that album cover.

Just heard the new Teenage Fanclub.
Disappointing.

Nothing really jumped out and grabbed me the way that it usually does.
Just... no really big hooks.
Bummer.

I like it better than the last one. They really mellowed out over this past decade though, I'd really love to see them return to their 90s form.

Lissie "Catching a Tiger"
http://www.mediafire.com/?2ymwnj5ukle

“Lissie Maurus has the voice, the songs and the image to be huge in 2010. Her first release, Why You Runnin’, pitches her midway between the ethereal spookiness of Jesca Hoop or Neko Case and the commercially copper-bottomed country-rock lilt of Sheryl Crow and solo Stevie Nicks. The EP captures what makes Maurus so compelling: a clear-as-a-bell singing voice, a knack for melody that sounds effortless, a direct line to a song’s emotional core, and a talent way too big for just one canyon.” – Sunday Times Culture “Guitar-toting LA freeway rock” – The Guardian

“The five tracks revel in pure, countrified sorrow, with Lissie’s glorious voice steeped in whiskey and reverb on raucous lead single ‘Little Lovin’ and plaintive hometown ballad ‘Oh Mississippi’ – a haunting glimpse at what’s in store for her full-length debut, coming in 2010.” – Paste US

Lissie is from along the banks of the Mississippi, Rock Island, Illinois. Why You Runnin’ – the Fat Possum released & Bill Reynolds (Band Of Horses) produced – EP released in the US late last year, earned the young singer high praise, with coverage in Bust, Filter, Marie Claire, Nylon, and Under The Radar to name but a few. In addition to the recent ‘Best of What’s Next’ profile in Paste, the Boston Globe included her in their ‘Names To Know’ in 2010 feature, declaring she is “…not so much a soul singer as she is an incredibly soulful Americana artist who finds the sepia-toned sweet spot between Neko Case, Laura Marling, and the Shangri-Las.”

i have mixed feelings on this. loved the ep, and the songs from it are still the best on the album. sounds like this record was marketed before it was recorded, and marketed poorly.

Anyone else give that Max Richter a listen? I really dig it. If you like Eno's "Music for Airports" style of piano ambient, then you'll enjoy this.
