Yeah, I've got a lot more respect for Glavine now than the 90s powerhouse teams. I was more of an Avery fan, but we all see how that turned out.

I don't see him being the last 300 game winner. Eventually someone will reach it, if only by default on a long career.

Kinda funny how much more attention this is getting than Bonds reaching Aaron's HR #. Can't say I'm dissappointed though. Bonds breaking the HR record is just a bump to me (I say this without the bias of steroids).

I don't. But he will be the last 300 game winner (provided Randy doesn't get there) for at least 20-30 years.

They said back in the day that Early Wynn would be the last one to get it. This was in 1963. Since then there have been 9 more additions to the club (including Glavine). Someone will do it, just not for a while.

i agree with this assessment. in the next few years i think there will emerge a durable young pitcher on a good team that will have the chance.

Am I too harsh for still not forgiving Glavine for going to the Mets? Someone talk me off this ledge.

1995, Game 6.

He pitched a 1 hitter to win a World Championship.

Let it go.

Didn't he beg Atlanta to take him back last year, only to be rebuffed and then he signed with the Mets for two more seasons?

hah....Beltran and Glavine begged to go to different teams before signing with the Mets.

Yep. You can trace my disdain for the entire sport to this moment.

Exactly.

Crying about Glavine going to the Mets makes you the baseball equivalent of this guy.

What's Randy at, 284? I'm not sure he's got 16 wins in him at this point.

Randy claims hes not retiring so he must really want it.

Mussina is 38 and has 246 wins. He was stinking it up earlier in the year but has been very good his last three starts. I'd say he's got an outside shot at it if he wants it bad enough.

Don't know who would be next in line after those two.

Don't get me wrong, it's still a point of bitterness especially considering how little he would've had to compromise to stay here.

Doesn't change the fact that dude's going into the Hall as a Brave, won two Cy Youngs as a Brave, and will most likely have a statue outside Turner field someday next to Warren Spahn.

Respect.

Yeah not to pile on here but when was the last time you even WATCHED a Braves game Ky? Better yet, when was the last time you watched a baseball game?

Big ups to Glavine. He gave me some good memories back in the day.

In five years time there will only be 6 players (maybe 7, with Ken Griffey) that have 2000 or more RBIs. I don't see anybody else playing today that can get there?

Hank Aaron - 2297 (3298 games) .695/game
Babe Ruth - 2217 (2503 games) .886/game
Cap Anson - 2076 (2523 games) .823/game (only 97 career HRs!)

Barry Bonds (age 42) - 1980 (2956 games) .670/game
Ken Griffey (age 37) - 1678 (2337 games) .718/game
Manny Ramirez (age 35) - 1588 (1925 games) .825/game
Alex Rodriguez (age 31) - 1456 (1856 games) .784/game

How great was Lou Gehrig, even with that RBI muncher Ruth batting in front of him?

Lou Gehrig - 1995 (2164 games) .922/game

I think the topic was the same...guys who could win 300 b4 they retired just Glavine hadn't done it.

Beg is the wrong word, but for all intensive purposes yes.

He wanted to stay in Atlanta, but they wouldn't give him a competitive offer. Instead they went out and got Russ Ortiz, Mike Hampton, and Shane Reynolds.

actually you were questioning Glavine's status as a Hall of Famer and saying that he and Mussina were similiar somehow (i believe closer examination the numbers proved that theory to be folly)

I meant a year ago, after his first deal with the mets were up..I read he really wanted Atlanta to sign him again to be rebuffed, so he settled on the Mets offer. I just like how this makes the Mets look.

Maybe that was it. But in truth, I'm not a big mussina fan just not a Glavine fan either. Glavine's stats and top years were much better than I expected but there is the fact that he pitched his entire career in the NL. I'm surprised they let modern era NL'ers in the Hall.

1. Not a lotta braves baseball comes in over rabbit ears in Wisconsin or MA.
2. No, I don't watch like I used to. Once we started losing the iconic players, I had a harder time identifying with the team. Combine that with a wife who doesn't watch anymore either, and well there you go.

Yeah I got all that. That's nothing I didn't know when I made the comment.

Yeah I bust your balls, so what? I've been doing it for like 15 years. But I used the cute little winking thing so you're not supposed to get bent out of shape about. Aren't those the rules?
