I knew if I kept buying their albums it would eventually pay off.

This is the first Spoon album capable of producing 20ml of spermatozoa, daily.

No stand out track? 'I Saw The Light' is a fucking monster track with its fly down and a giant veiny dong hanging out, that's clutching a gun in each hand and screaming from bloody lips 'FEEDING TIME MOTHERFUCKERS, MEAT! MEAT! MEAT! MEAT! MEAT!".

So everyone went off them as soon as they developed some EDGE instead of chasing the rainbow of producing the perfect cutesy pie pop song. Big surprise.

Spoon just went from number 156 to number 1 in the cool charts.

As solid as Ga and coming off Gimme Fiction before I felt it was the beginning of chasing them down the Who hole to stardom, or more presently like the fast track KoL hit. Bigger, slicker, sexier, and lasers too. I'm glad they decided to stay on Earth with this one.

Guys... Opa, Dalen, and FT have clearly explained to us that there are no good songs on Transference, so obviously we should all stop liking those songs immediately.

It's not completely devoid of good songs - it's just that they're outnumbered by the mediocre ones.

There's no use attempting to be the moderate voice of reason on this one. By now, you're either lumped into the Love or Hate Camp on this one.
This album has joined the ranks of previously contentious albums that now fall under the Cold Stone Creamery size comparison chart, Like it, Love it, or gotta have it. There's no room for mild dissension or criticism.

I do understand why I got lumped into the "hate it" category, since I referred to it as a turd, but I shouldn't have used such a harsh descriptor. If this was some random band I'd never heard before, I'd think, "This is OK, but not really anything I'd be likely to pursue any further." Since I am such a Spoon fanboy, that increases the disappointment factor exponentially.

The one valid point Rads has made is that I probably do tend to react too quickly upon my first couple of listens to an album for the first time. I should probably start reserving judgement on albums until after maybe a couple of weeks or maybe even a month or so of listening. Like with sports, I'm definitely a kneejerk reactionist.

I always thought the point of these threads was to get the knee jerk reaction, fight about it and then attack certain posters when they suddenly change their minds on the albums.
We also save certain critiques of albums to attack posters for using a similar logic when professing their love for a different album.

I'm digging this a lot.

Highlights for me are "Who Makes Your Money", "I Saw the Light", and "Nobody Gets Me But You". It's pretty solid throughout, though. There are no real clunkers (not even "Mystery Zone"), and the overall vibe is one of even more depth and subtlety than they've had on their last couple of albums, I think.

Time will tell, I guess. Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga didn't hold up as well for me as the trio of albums from Series of Sneaks through KTM has.

This album is certifiably GREAT when Drinky and I are in agreement on it, and it doesn't say NEIL YOUNG anywhere on the cover.

When the comment came late last year about the board being dead, I said to 'wait until the new Spoon album leaks'.

Might be their best record.

Really feeling echoes of Plastic Ono Band in parts.

Thanks for the link D.
I don't care what the neighbors say, Transference is outstanding.

Seriously. One of my fave songs of the year.

I didn't listen to this until a couple months ago and I'm kicking myself for waiting so long.

Just watched this. I think this is the first live clip of Spoon I've ever seen. Good performance of a really good song.

Still think this album is being seriously underrated by a lot of people, Spoon fans especially.

Sorta like the last Spoon album actually where I wake up one day and realize I've probably listened to it more than any other release from that year. Easy brilliance.
