Seriously? I think part of the problem is that liberals protest so much that people don't take it seriously anymore.

Oh dude, I have the complete opposite in my head. I guess I can't prove it, though. Seems like liberals fail to show up at the polls, and only march for something BIG, whereas GlenBeckites storm town hall every time a gun shop closes. Especially since Barry got elected, anyway.

Maybe I have it backwards. But I feel like we're coasting, and they have that underdog fire.

Question: How is it that individuals who believe in evolution and the age of the earth as billions of years old fail to address a picture of a dinosaur fighting a mammoth drawn by Neanderthals in a cave in France (http://www.genesispark.com/genpark/ancient/ancient.htm)?

please say it's fake

oh no. i risked further familial alienation and commented.

Don't they know the difference between a dinosaur and a dragon?

Actually after my recent trip to the Creation Museum, I can say that in actuality these wackos honestly don't know the difference. I actually watched a film they show there where they cited biblical precedent for a fire-breathing creature (called Leviathon in the bible) and said this was probably the creature that became known in legends as a dragon...but they were probably not that many of them...and they probably died off by being hunted...possibly by knights.

No, I'm not kidding.

I was wondering the same thing. "Worker's Rights! Fuck the Biebs!"

What do you say in a symphathy letter to a friend who you haven't seen or talked to in about 20 years and whose 10 year old son just died from cancer? "You're in my thoughts" seems rather meaningless. It's times like this that I wish I believed in religion.

I'd say just writing that you are thinking about them in their time of mourning is probably the way to go. Just touching base is good. Might seem insignificant on paper, but the notion that someone is taking time out of their schedule to say "I'm thinking about you guys" is honorable.

I think that is exactly what someone would want to hear. I'm sure they would rather hear that and know their old friends still care, as opposed to "I know how you feel" when you have never gone through this experience. (Unless you have gone thru losing a child.)

I'd ask them if they want a donation made somewhere, or you could just make a donation to a children's cancer hospital in their son's name and let them know.

Oh, I agree with you and it's really all I can do. It just feels wholly inadequate.

Yeah man, I think you actually lay it out. "I know it's been a long time since we were close friends/saw each other/made wild monkey love in that airport hotel/buried bodies together out in the desert, but I did want you to know that I do remember the good times we had together, and I was shocked and crushed to hear about your loss. I know it's a small token of condolence, but if you ever need anything - a late night phone call, a bottle of whiskey, or just to know that someone out there cares, reach out to me, I'm still here for you."

FYI on the Wisconsin protests - dem hippies been gettin buck for a while now. UW was home to the largest anti-war march in AMGERGIKAG in the 60s.

This is a really good book on that subject.

And hey, I'm not saying I want to see another Kent State, but I am saying that a lot of this anti-government shit is going to look real dumb when some overweight 33 year old sergeant goes PTSD and guns down some Wisconsin Education Assn. member.
