Watching these Rays rake, I'm glad Texas kept the second seed... I'd rather play against NY any day.

Francona out apparently (Keith Law & Olbermann). Kiss of death after Epstein claimed Francona wouldn't be the scapegoat.

I think its a simplistic response to the situation to say he's being scapegoated. He just had his options coming due at a very bad time. Would anyone really expect that he'd have a two year option picked up after that collapse? That's not to say it's his fault primarily. I'd blame Epstein more but there wasn't an immediate decision due on an option for him.

This.

True, but almost anytime someone gives a vote of confidence or states "we will not make XYZ the scapegoat" the person they're talking about gets fired/released/etc with 72hrs.

My bad...Does not make sense without the accompanying text....This was in reference to them letting Francona go so soon afterwards.

Really Dbacks? A Blackout...what does that remind you of? A funeral maybe...go ahead and celebrate the death of your season then.

My dad called from the parking lot after the game. Sounded wild. Now the Cardinals....ugh. The are equal parts evil and dangerous.

Good on the Brewers. I personally was pulling for the Dbacks, simply because of the incredible season they had, but either team is pretty great to go on to the DS imo.

So is this the official smiley of the NLDS:  two beer producing cities going head-to-head.

Yeah. I mean, it's a shame Squirg's Red Sox didn't even make it, but, at least for one year, Dov and Jewelz know what it's like to be a Braves fan. Plus, maybe this will get certified frontrunner ficky to post more.

as a Phillies fan I have a lot of experience with not making the playoffs, i'm just starting to get used to the fact that they are actually good (and only have one WS win on this run, so I don't think we deserve the hate.)

I could be wrong, but I don't think there is such vitriol towards the Phillies as there are for teams like the Yankees and the Red Sox.

A lot of comments about the Phillies probably came by default for most baseball fans simply because they were another giant to fall. Let's face it, in February pundits were saying it'd be the Yankees/Phillies or Red Sox/Phillies in the WS. Also, the Phillies have a lot of high-profile players but they aren't generally seen as headhunters like Boston or NY. Halladay was a surprise. They lost Werth, and Howard was in the organization prior to the big $.

I don't hate Philly nearly as much as I hate the Yankees or Red Sox.

Then again, I root for the Tigers, an AL team.

i guess it doesn't take long to go from laughing stock to vilified. 10,000 loses and 2 WS in 125 years and all that.

Well, yeah. And you're an Orioles fan so you're more slanted against the Yanks and Sox.

I get it. I understand that no team is more hated (or loved) than the Yanks but in 2011, I think you're underestimating the amount of people who were more than happy to see the Phils go down as well.

They also had the 2nd highest payroll this year. Just another reason to hate them but that's more a general issue I have with MLB.

Yeah, does no good whenever I start to mouth off, so I've been laying low.

Gotta feel for ol' Chadwick this morning, though...
