I don't recall seeing this posted before, and figured Todd would want to listen to it, if he hasn't already done so.

Meh. It's cute I guess, but that's it. It's wierdly voiced, too, like lyrically. It's like a 15 year old wrote it. I donno, something seems off about it, when I picture Cee-Lo singing it... dude has money, dude is not 15.

I thought he sounded kinda femme and was wondering why he was singing about a girl.

Thanks!

I downloaded this earlier in the week off mgska, sort of on a whim since it's not necessarily my thing and have been pleasantly surprised over several listens. It may not hold up, and my positive reaction may have something to do with the massive quantity of really mediocre Bob Dylan that I've been consuming. (also I've been confined to an office more this week than at any time in the last several months) but for this week, it's really been aces.

I mean, they aspired to be tough guys at least. That was the image they wanted to portray. Cee Lo as a whiney adolescent is just ... odd. I wasn't going for 100% lyrical accuracy, just the appropriateness of the song's voice.

I think this has been in the can for a good while too and his label just didn't want to release it so soon after the last one. He played about half of these songs when I saw him open last fall. Isbell apparently has a guest spot on the album.

A couple songs in, it seems much more stripped down and less county.

He's playing here the end of september. Too bad I already have tickets for Pavement/Sonic Youth and John Cale that night.

He's playing here too and I've been on the fence about going. I like him, but not sure if it's worth going out on a work night.

Saw him last time he was in town, not sure if I'll feel the need to get out and see him again this time, but it was a really good show. I'd recommend it. And, it's not like it is anything that gets too wild so a weeknight shouldn't matter too much.

i'll just say i thought he was ok before seeing him, but then afterward liked him a whole lot. i think his shows can only improve a fan's perception of him.

I haven't heard any of JTE's stuff. Is it in a similar vein to his papa's work?

It's rootsy, but more laid back and maybe more traditional than some of his old man's stuff. I actually prefer him as I've always kinda found Steve Earle a bit on the over-rated side. Here's his last one:

Some of it is traditional, some alt country, some folky and some none of the above. It's not anything like Steve Earle per se but I think JTE should count his old man as an influence whether he wants to admit it or not.

I really love this record right now. I'm too lazy to search for a link, but check it out here.
