Yes. Nobody questioned the Spurs 1999 title until Phil Jackson employed the "asterisk" as a (quite successful) psychological ploy during the 2001 playoffs.

The regular season was shorter that year (50 games rather than 82), but the Spurs went 15-2 in the postseason, beating a Shaq + Kobe Lakers and the absolutely stacked Portland team (Rasheed Wallace, Jermaine O Neal, Damon Stoudamire, Bonzi Wells, JR Rider, etc etc) in 4-game sweeps along the way.

The biggest knock on the Spurs is that they caught a break in the Finals due to the Knicks' improbable run to the Finals... and that is certainly true. But given the way they kicked everyone's ass that year in the playoffs, I don't think a different East team would've beaten them either. Besides, you can only play the opponents you're given, eh?

Just my opinion.

Tom is absolutely correct on each and every single point. Meanwhile, the recipient of Jeanne Buss' industrial-strength strap-on can take that asterisk and shove it up whatever remains of his tattered anus! I'd rather have a psychotic tard like George Karl coach my team than that phony Zen turd.

Ok, yeah.. but count the number of Rings on the Zen's fingers Vs George Karl's.

absolutely stacked Portland team (Rasheed Wallace, Jermaine O Neal, Damon Stoudamire, Bonzi Wells, JR Rider, etc etc) in 4-game sweeps along the way.

Hardly stacked when you take into account the fact that Bonzi only played 7 games that year, and it was his rookie year. He was nothing back then, averaged like 2 ppg or something. Sheed was still a semi-bench player, and was no where near the double double guy he soon became. He was averaging second-rate stats like he does now back then, about 14 and 5.. JR Rider never did anything outside of the dunk comp anyway (apart from those first couple of seasons), and Damon Stoudamire's career has been a steady downward spiral since his rookie year. Jermaine O'Neal averaged like 4 points and 2 rebounds that season.

Portland's only decent payers back then
were a waaaaay past-his-prime Sabas and an ageing Scottie Pippen.

A team full of Darko clones could've almost carved them up and served them on a bed of steamed seasonal vegetables.

this is why you should never bet on a team with both Jason Williams and Antoine Walker on it. I'd rather bet on the Colts in the AFC championship.

6 months ago, If someone told me the Mavs would not only be in the finals this year, but be up 2-0 against the Heat, I would have believed them straight away because any idea that crazy just has to be true.

Even before the whole thing is over I've already lost a bunch of cds; I picked Spurs Vs. Heat in the finals.

That was a truly epic collapse last night by the Mavs. Could be a series changer. At the very least, Shaq making clutch free throws followed by Dirk missing one will trigger some form of armageddon.

these technicals are ridiculous, but the refs are letting Shaq camp out in the middle of the lane for DAYS.
