much more subdued than the first which might be a good thing for some, but not me. Pretty mixed after first listen.

edit: which isn't to say it is subdued, but i guess the beach boys melodies are kept to a minimum.

I'll take a listen to the new Jerry Lee, but I am again disappointed it is another collection of start studded collaborations. I'd really love to hear an album letting him stand on his own one more time.

No Justin Townes Earle leak yet?

Yeah, it's pretty listless and uninspired, but it presents more his country side this time out so that kind of makes sense. The version of "Dead Flowers" with Mick is just okay, the version of "Sweet Virginia" with Keef is almost a travesty. Not much of the rest differentiates itself.

The new Brother Kite sounded good after one listen. Doesn't have the Beach Boys harmonies, but still has the reverby and shoegazer-ish qualities that I loved from the last one.

their plan was from the first appeareance in windows 95 to become the worst band ever, step by step, and then consolidate. they are brilliant somehow.

Haven't they been awful since Pinkerton or at least The Green Album or at the very least, the one after that? Isn't this like their fourth or fifth awful record in a row?

For what they set out to do, I don't think you can call it awful. I mean, they're a pop rock band. They've always been tongue-in-cheek about what they do--heck, how can people really take them seriously when obviously they're just having fun? I don't know. Its a place of contention with me. I mean look at the covers of their last 2 records, and the upcoming one?

Its interesting, because when they did make a serious record (Pinkerton) everyone wanted them to go back to their fun, surfy, punky, poppy roots. Then they make those types of records and people want deep thinking Rivers back. Personally, I think Epitaph is the perfect home for them. Let's face it, Weezer's bread and butter crowd is now the Hot Topic crowd--and has been. It works for that crowd.

You must be pretty bored. Its interesting, because you probably put more thought into that than Rivers has into any of their albums.

i'm hoping for at least one good song on the new weezer album. the last two albums netted 3 good songs.

If you're putting it side-by-side with an accepted classic? Sure, I'll agree its probably pretty awful. But to judge it on those terms when it was not meant to be listened to as such? I dunno. I guess I can just appreciate something for what it is, and not for what people want it to be. They are never going to put out a critical or serious album again, so why keep pulling out the measuring stick.

Its like you know Justin Bieber is awful, but it is what it is. You know? Its not trying to be something else, and it probably wasn't written with you in mind anyway. Like I said above, I dunno how people can take them seriously when the Red album had them in faux Village People garb, Raditude (seriously?) had a jumping dog, and the most recent one has the big guy from Lost on the cover.

I haven't bought a Weezer record since Maladroit, and trust me that was probably one or two too many. But I see them for what they are. Like I said, its a place of contention when people want to place them on some measuring stick.

...and I should add that I listened through Maladroit this past weekend in addition to the Green Album, and they weren't as bad as they were to me when they were released.

I don't know if the new Robert Plant record was posted in here or not, but it's really quite good.

yeah, i guess i was just morbidly curious about this one for some reason. maybe because they're blatantly cashing in on lost with the title/cover. there's a live cover of coldplay's viva la vida on it, and i'm not saying coldplay are bob dylan when it comes to lyrics, but the difference between that song and the rest of the album is shocking. cuomo writes some bad 80's metal band lyrics. i'm sure they've always been that way but at least the blue album and pinkerton had some decent music to overshadow it.
