Holy dog shit. I haven't turned on the new one yet, but "Tears Don't Matter Much" on That Much Further West is about as good a reason as I can find to enjoy rock and roll.

andyfest, I'm working on something for you. You around to download something this weekend?

Very Very good song.

'Placemat Blues' shows a band flexing their influences and we're all the better because of it. The song 'Gimme Back My Dog' cracks me up as well.
I think I need to dig this one out.

Gimme Back My Dog was on Rads' POWER MONGER mix, and fucking great.

e-fu...I have seen you dropping The South San Gabriel like a mofo...monday I'm'a need to peep that shit.

Oh, and mcaputo, you need to post more. Your tastes run toward the monger. And Lord Knows that's what we need more of in this piece.

Please, tell me more of this Slobberbone. I've heard the name, and you've dropped them here and in the South San Gabriel thread. Consider my interest piqued.

They've broken up recently, but they sounded a LOT like Lucero. Tough, Crazy Horse-sorta alt.country/shit kickin' rock and roll, with great lyrics and a whole lotta bad attitude. They're led by singer/songwriter Brent Best (who's the guy on that South San Gabriel project), who just seemed to get better and better with each recording.

They had four full-lengths: Crow Pot Pie, Barrelchested, Everything You Thought Was Right Was Wrong Today, and Slippage. I'd rank Everything You Thought Was Right as their best, but all of them are worth a few bucks if you're interested at all in that Lucero/ Drive-by Truckers/ I Can Lick Any SOB In The House kinda genre.

Slobberbone website here

thanks..i just got a few albums - DAMN GOOD......from what i heard thus far lucero meets buffalo tom...good stuff.

At a show here in Boston awhile back the frontman from Lucero got shut down by the bar because he was so drunk. The last time I saw them, besides the beers they were drinking on stage they got about 7 shots from various people in the audience.

big Slobberbone fan here...my fav would be EYTWRWWT or Barrelchested...EYTWRWWT is more twangy, and Barrelchested is more rocking

they have more less reformed, minus the original bass player, plus a new bass player and a guy on keys...they're now called the Drams and I saw them last month and the new songs sounded great...they're supposed to going into the studio sometime this fall...I'm really looking forward the new album...it's been too long since Brent has put anything out...going to see them on Friday and I am effin excited

Bloor, I put a Slobberbone song on that mix I sent you...and the gravely throated guy you hear about mid-way through is Brent's buddy, Patterson Hood

if anyone want some Slobberbone, PM and I'll hook it up

Sorry I didn't get back to you on Friday. I lose internet access as soon as I leave work. I like what I see, though. What do you have cookin' for me?

This is some great news to start my week. I loved the bass player's look, I always thought he looked like an Ent from Lord of the Rings. I saw them live once in Indianapolis, the crowd was depressingly sparse.

Got That Much Further West on Saturday (thx2 Msr. Fu); I dig it. Singer kinda sounds like a bastard cross between Jay Farrar and Mike Ness. I now anticipate hearing the new one.

Oh, and Jagged, I actually just came across your mix the other day after cleaning my office; now it won't play. hmph.

I'm finally listening to this (thanks, TCB!) and it's definitely got that Drive-By Truckers vibe, by way of The Mats. This is tasty stuff, man. I will DEFINITELY have to acquire their back catalog (hint-hint).

I saw them again last night. Not that I could tell, but the guitarist kept fucking up the songs because he was too drunk.
