And these two are pronouced more uhb than awb. There's no way I'm accepting Uhb-ner as a viable inflection of the name.

In what world are the words "obtain" and "obnoxious" not pronounced with AT LEAST a short O sound (and who in the hell actually says these words with a long O)? I can go on record that I have never, ever heard anyone, ever, ever, anywhere, at any point . . . wait for it . . . ever pronounce them "uhbtain" and "uhbnoxious," not even the most backwoods hick who had never seen the words before, if they could read at all, that is.

You're making no sense. "uhb" is a short o, "awb" is a long o. Where is the accent on "ob-TAIN" and "ob-NOX-ious"? Think on it. I'm so right I've got an ob-NER.

Pronounce the O in "obner" like the O in "orange"

Dude, you're nutty.. Aww would make it sound like the speaker is from Jersey(no offense to anyone from Jersey). Awwbner.

It's ahb, like stick out your tongue and say "ahbner". Which is also how the other O words mentioned are pronounced.

I think I was confused by the two choices. I voted for number two...but I pronounce it like Charli. At least in my head, I haven't had much call to actually pronounce it out loud.

To further this:

The O sound in "ahbner" is pronounced how you would pronounce "ah," as in the sound the doctor asks you to stick out your tongue and make. This is a short O.

The O sound in "ohbner" is pronounced how you would pronounce . . . the letter O, or when you go "Oh, I see" or "O Canada." This is a long O.

I go with the short o with no w.

Mot, depending on the company I'm with, I will pronounce those words with the uh. And I can read, too.

Are you serious? "Uh" as in "rhymes with 'duh'"? Are you sure you're not just malforming this "uh" sound like Bonor is? If you really pronounce it that way, I'm going to have to have some official verification that this is a legitimate method of pronounciation.

Go here and listen to the sound file. You seriously would say that ub-noxious?

On a related, note, how do you pronounce Bonor Obnerst? "Bahn-er"? (As in autobahn?) Or...heh-heh..."Boner" as in, well, in whatever boners go into.

That's a good question. It can be voiced both ways. I'll leave it with you.

Mot probably pronounces his name mawt. But in French it would be moh, meaning 'word'. Hmm!

As someone pointed out, it's just a matter of where the emphasis lies. Because the emphasis is on "NOX" in "obnoxious," you tend to rush through the "ob" and pronounce it "ub." If you'd like, you could write it as 'bnoxious, but either way it comes out sounding like "ub." I would think that to fully sound out "ob" as you're describing in everyday speech would sound ah-kward.

I do believe he was attempting to spell out the schwa (ə) sound, which is indeed how my dictionary recommends pronouncing both words (although they do list "ahb-tain" and "ahb-noxiuos" as acceptable second pronunciations).
