Down by Law, Ghost Dog, Mystery Train are all REALLY GOOD.
Everything else by Jim has been PURE SHIT.

I tried to watch Down by Law, couldn't make it through. Mystery Train's premise is intriguing, but, meh. Ghost Dog = 100% shit.

Dead Man...ugh...

It's not as if I hate everything, dude. I like what I like, and happen to think that most of the movies you were watching saturday are better than Jarmusch's output.

Just cos Rza put out a crappy soundtrack to Ghost Dog don't make it good, (The movie or that shit he put to wax)

but at least it was 2 hours of cillian right?

the best part (because it was so ridiculous) was when cillian was chasing after rachel with that hole in his throat, limping, and trying to talk. pure comedy... reminded me of that anti-smoking commercial with the old lady & smoking that cigarette with a hole in her throat.

I just saw Broken Flowers last night. The preview made it look so intriguing. However, they forgot to mention that virtually the whole dialogue and story line was contained within that 2 minute preview. I thought it was not a good movie at all. I didn't mind Coffee and Cigarettes. I certainly thought it was entertaining and the cinematography was absolutely great. However, Broken Flowers is a weak, poorly made movie, at least from a script and fictional story-telling standpoint. I thought that it was a really long way of getting around to the whole, "live for today" message that every single film seems to be pushing these days. "Hmm, the past is gone. The future hasn't happened yet. So, I guess all you have is the present." I suppose I didn't like it because it's a pretty base philosophy. It's only a surface level way of living and fails to address issues of real life. That being my opinion, it seems consistent that a movie that attempts to have its audience agree with such a sentiment will be base, and superficial in turn. The ending leaves you wondering, where was the hero?, what was the point, because Mr. Murray's character hardly seemed to be living in the present because that's all he had. The whole movie was him liiving in the fucking past for crying out loud. Now I am rambling.

Not a good movie. IMO. Don't spend the money on it, especially if you're in CA.

I like it a lot, even if it's just a bunch of muddled pseudo-shaman wisecrackery masquerading as deep meditation on death.

I liked it. Yeah, his movies are at a totally different pace than most films out there, it takes some getting used to. Some people find it boring and pointless, others like myself find it a nice change and kind of relaxing... more like a documentary.

My feeling of what the "point" of the film was: Him realizing that his old way of seeing things--i.e. seeing himself as superior and detached--doesn't work anymore. That even though all those women were kind of weird they at least had real lives and, more significantly, didn't really need him in their lives anymore.

(Possible spoiler) : If there was a logical explanation for it all my guess would be that it was his wife that sent him the letter, and that she did it to make him realize what he was missing--i.e. that he might be sad if he were to never have kids.

(IMO)

was that his wife?? I thought it was just a girlfriend. Yeah, I thought it was pretty obvious that she was the one who sent the letter, just to fuck with him.

I liked it, but I was left a little unsatisfied. The pace didn't bother me, but I thought there could have been more humor.

I think this might be my favorite movie of the year so far. That isn't saying much since the closest competition of what I've seen is probably The Constant Gardener (good, not great), Howl's Moving Castle, Kung Fu Hustle, and Batman Begins.
