Actually, pretty poignant.

Timis, I think we may be in the same camp: We just gettin to old for this hiphop shit BUT, I'll put Jay-Z's the Black Album along with Aquemini and Stankonia as certifiable CLASSICS of hip hop from the last 10 years.

And dont discount Eminem either. That shit (when listened to in a vaccum away from M. Mathers' personality) is just game-ass tight.

You are gonna get Killed on this one dude. Sorry.

let's face it....there has not been a GREAT rap/hip hop album in at least 10 years or so.

I'm not even a big hip-hop fan and I find this a bit ridiculous.

Wu-Tang Clan Forever (1997).

Im not even gonna list a bunch of hiphop albums in the last 10 years that are great, but if you're gonna bring out a WuTang album then at least say The W. It's second only to the debut.

1) I loved the fuck out of Iron Flag and The W. The Wu as a collective never fell off, it's just that most of the individual members, excluding Ghostface and Masta Killa, refuse to release good albums anymore.

2) Common's Like Water for Chocolate is a classic and it's only 5 years old. Nia by Blackalicious is classic. Reflection Eternal, Stankonia, Marshall Mathers LP, Things Fall Apart, Chronic 2001 and College Dropout are all near-classic albums.

3) Kanye is a brilliant songwriter/artist/producer/etc. In fact, I think he borders on being a musical genius along with Timbaland.

4) To Roger Friedman: Alicia Keys had a song produced by Kanye West that was a major hit. John Legend was put onto the scene thanks to Kanye West and a few of the songs on his debut were produced by Kanye.

I think his main point is that Late Registration isn't as good as most think it is. As to that, I cannot disagree with him. It's real fucking tight in parts and real fucking 'meh' in others. And 'Diamonds are Forever' is a horrible song in my opinion.

Ironically, singer Brandy makes an appearance on one track, even though she was dumped from the new collection of Ray Charles "duets."

how is that ironic?

The rest of "Late Registration," while very entertaining, contains almost no original compositions.

haha.

This is true. There are 3 or 4 fucking awesome songs on here, but the 2 singles eat the corn out of my shit.

Every album/artist mentioned by shiv in the thread is unlistenable ;)

WuTang shit the bed after the first Ghostface album, but 36 Chambers, Meth, Rae, ODB, GZA and Ghost's solo joints own.

Timis -- I dunno who you are reffering to when you think of all these classic albums, but even Pac and some Cube stuff sounds pretty datedm, at least lyrically.

The first 3 Kast albums and the first 2 Goodie alums OWN.

Y'all know nothing about rap.

Loog's idea of unlistenable is an interesting one. Very emphatic is he, and the hiphop I like must all be unlistenable. Fine with me.

I'd rather hear Dr. Octagon, Paris or El-P than most party hiphop, but then I'm not exactly the target audience either, being an ancient Nothern cracka and all.
