Contreras. Duque.

you know there was a little Yankee blood going thru their veins during this series. I salute both of you!

i'm not really that upset that they're out already. last year was great and there's nothing that would ever top it. i just hope they can do something about the pitching staff for next year.

Good for the White Sox, now let's hope the Angels win and baseball can be once again expanded beyond the Red Sox & Yankees.

Indeed.

The networks and newspapers will not even be able to play the "ex-Red Sock" or "ex-Yankee" card either, as they have managed with the "ex-Cub factor".

Outside of El Duque and Contreras, of course... But, otherwise - neither manager ever played for BOS or NYA. Guillen, largely in Chicago (A); Sciosia (sp?) in LA (N). The Big Hurt has always played in Comiskey; Vlad came to Anaheim from Montreal/San Juan. Buehrle, Garland, Jenks, etc., are either home-grown or without ties to Yankee or Red Sock organization. Same for Lackey, Colon (Cleve. and Montreal, yes, but never NYA or BOS), K-Rod.

Podsednik limped around four or five different organizations, before blooming in MKE, then getting to the playoff his first year on the South-side.

This will be a very Mid-Atlantic unfriendly - by which I mean, nationally uninteresting - set-up against which MLB and Fox will have to battle. Doggedly.

Say it ain' so...

Podsednik is one of many ex-Mariners around baseball currently flourishing. I always liked him here.

I don't care about the Red Sox, but with them out of it, the Angels better beat the Yankees. If the Yankees are in the playoffs, I like having Boston around just because I know it's particularly painful for them to lose to the Sawx. But I will be happy to see a non-Yankee, non-Red Sox playoff race. St. Louis-White Sox could be really good.

you know good for the chicago. if boston had bases loaded and no outs and couldn't get a single run then they don't deserve to beat them. i was at the game and, other than the back to back shots by ortiz and manny, the red sox looked rather uninspired.

I was actually surprised that they even made the playoffs, but I figured they'd at least force a game 5 against any DS opponent. So, not too disappointed about this. The bases loaded/no outs scenario was emblematic of this team's inability to capitalize on obvious opportunities. Props to El Duque - that was one helluva performance. Maybe not as momentous an achievement as Pedro coming out of the pen in 99, but equally vital in terms of keeping Boston behind the curve, so to speak. As Oakland learned in '03 and the Yankees in '04, shut Boston down when you can...(alas, Boston didn't pick up on this lesson themselves, letting the Yankees take the division)

I certainly wouldn't mind seeing an A/STL-CHI series, but honestly, more and more, I think Boston fans are not seeking schadenfreude via NY losses - at least, I know I'm not wicked psyched to see them win, but I also don't feel redeemed or something by them losing. Alas, the fingerpointing and media bullshit that stems from WEEI and the Herald will probably do their best to run half the team out of town in the next few months!

Anyhow, congrats to the Chicago fans - hope you guys get to feel the same euphoria that we did last October.

looks like they had to postpone game 4 of the yanks/angels game to give the yanks a better chance.

i cannot believe that the local sports bitches are still crying about the red sox loss. last night this guy was on tv talking about how the red sox are a better team and even though they didn't win, half way through the next year they'll realize that they are better and that's more important than going to the al championship a la the white sox. he carried on about losing a starter and closer all season and blah blah and the white sox are there based on the last six games they played.......

shut. the. fuck. up. and get back to your mall security job.
that said. go yankees.
i want the white sox to beat them.

Halfway through next year half the Red Sox wil be playing for other teams.

It's young-guy-from-the-farm-system time. Oh, plus Beltran.

Are you implying a deal with the Mets, Man-Ram-for-Beltran?

You could be on to something... It appears Carlos's early NL success, with the 'Stros, was a fluke. Back to the AL, then?
