Typical sci-fi watching binge for me: Solaris, 2001, Gattaca, Brazil, etc.

do you mean the 60's solaris or the cloony version? is there one you like better? how would you compare it to the book--which i thought was great in a very foggy, dreamy, far-off sort of way.

Original Solaris is a 9.5/10 for me

Remake is an 8

Both good. But the emotional impact is greater in the original.

Have never read the book, but always meant to.

I liked the book better than the 1972 (Russian) Solaris (which I felt dragged at times but I should watch it again sometime).

In the book at least, the idea that we as humans can possibly be closed off cognitively from the ultimate truth is quite forceful- I forget how the movie does here.

Ive never seen the 2002 remake- is it any good? I generally dont like Clooney- but Id imagine they had to substantially remake it in order for it to be watchable by today's attention standards- the 1972 version had serious pacing problems.

They kept the slow pace and the weirdness, not quite as slow, but it killed the box office.

Except for a few scenes, like what happens in the final few scenes, Clooney's is faithful to the original. The supporting cast isn't as strong as the original's cast , but it's still a good movie.

Never-seen-before footage released to the 'IoS' reveals the extraordinary discarded prologue to Stanley Kubrick's '2001: A Space Odyssey'.
