This is where I don't agree because you could wield that metric against any band that uses basic verse/chorus/verse structure with guitars/drums. I don't hear any 'generic' at all, which makes it sound like a poor copy or version of some patented gold standard. I could see applying that label to The Bravery, whose album seems bereft of anything original in melody or song content. I hear elements of Modest Mouse I guess, but nothing that would suggest a carbon copy or clone, as I enjoy MM but haven't appreciated them on the same level as this band. I think Wolf Parade released one of the best albums of the year.

I think The Wrens were good when I saw them live, though, not earth shattering. And I'm still waiting to see Wolf Parade. But for now, I think Wolf Parade >>>> The Wrens.

A friend downloaded that Meadowlands cd for me (I think it was that one) and we got all excited and listened to it after I heard people here talk it up forever back in the spring. After about 5 songs, we both had an "emperor has no clothes" moment.

Which is generally what I do, unless there is some rare redeeming element.
