What is with that fucker's come-back, anyway?

The Day After Tomorrow, Flight of the Phoenix, In Good Company, Mine, Yours, and Ours... Lord knows what else.

He's gold (for the industry) right now, and I don't know why.

The only actor I hate more is Randy Quaid.

If 100% of the population listened to James Berardinelli on a weekly basis, the cinema would be much better. I like Ebert too, but Berardinelli seems to be far less forgiving.

We are looking for a completed dark comedy/dramedy feature script in the vein
of the Coen Brothers ('O Brother, Where Art Thou?' and 'Raising Arizona') or
Paul Thomas Anderson ('Magnolia' and 'Punch Drunk Love'). The script should
have either an element of film noir or a caper, heist, crime storyline.

Budget will not exceed $200,000.

Well, here's the problem with that, Bowfinger: if I happen to have a good screenplay in the vein of the Coen Bros. or PT Anderson, I'm probably gonna try to get it made with a real budget by a real producer rather than hand it over to your cheap everybody-works-for-free used car salesmen ass.

Not that any of these are necessarily going to be that good, but novel adaptations have made for some of the best movies. Nothing wrong with that.

I think the remake craze will die out soon. In the meantime at least some of them are worth watching. I'm sure King Kong will be.

I don't know about dying early on but:
Joe Pesci shoots him in the head in Goodfellas
Raptors get him in Jurassic Park
Jackie (or the cops?) shoot him in Jackie Brown
Anakin and Palpatine take care of him in Revenge of the Sith

Bite your tongue! The Potter flick is going to be unbelievably good(actually it looks fucking amazing) as will Narnia from some of the early things I've seen of it.

I actually think it's the King Kong flick that's going suck donkey balls. I'm sorry, it has Naomi Watts and Jack Black in it. Jack was pretty good in School of Rock, but marginally and Naomi, don't get me started, I still think if Nicole Kidman wasn't her best friend well...

I think an adaptation of a book is better then a remake. I HATE, HATE, HATE when they remake movies. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

And I could care less if a flick becomes a "blockbuster" as long as it's decently good and entertaining. For instance there's a boatload of movies some of you may not want to see that are coming out that I sure as hell would like to, such as:

Walk the Line
Libertine
Rumor Has it
The Ice Harvest
The Family Stone
Match Point
Casanova
Brokeback Mountain

While I definitely agree with you on that, what's up with this beef?

Now, I'm going to have to step in here...While I really don't like either of the Ring remakes, I must say that homegirl acted her ass off in 21 Grams, and made a really lame role in I *Heart* Huckabees really doggone funny. So we're going to have to agree to disagree on that one... :?

Not to mention her acting in Mulholland Drive, which was pretty damn good, and at least, was my introduction to her.

As for remakes, when they start remaking films made less than my lifetime, I'm pretty upset-- f'instance the current crop of rumors surrounding John Cena(sp?) and remaking Predator. What the hell.

Horror films are such in a state that studios feel the need to remake or repackage everything that actually worked in the past. The Fog, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, High Tension (the brillant Haute Tension), etc. I am at least looking forward to Hostel by Eli Roth. The kid at least looks to be trying to make good, fun horror films.

If I'm not mistaken, King Kong was based on a novella.

Budget will not exceed $30 million.

How can a story that centers on a wedding (or has a "wedding theme") also be about an underdog who overcomes adversity? Okay, picture this: a down and out depression era boxer has one last shot in the ring, and if he wins he gets to marry his opponent's trophy babe.

Or maybe this: a young girl can't dance due to a neurological malfunction, but she has to overcome the disability in order to win the Best First Dance At A Wedding contest at the local summer camp.

Or this: a young boy wants to be a ballerina, but he is refused a position at the national ballet academy due to their strict NO BACHELORS policy. If he wants to dance on opening night, he must find someone to marry FAST!

Or: a businessman hires a cheap hooker to escort him to his corporation's annual picnic, and together they win the company's three-legged sack race. Both the hooker and the businessman thusly learn the value of honest work and they get married.

I just saw Kingdom of Heaven. After Troy and Alexander (and, for that matter, Aviator), I must ask: What. The. Fuck. These are supposed to be some A-grade directors, and they come out with this shit.

Radcliffe, please explain.

KoH apparently has a director's cut coming out, so I'm willing to guess that there was definite studio involvement. KOH was just badly paced, the beginning was just horrible, jumping from one place to another, and left a lot up to the viewer to surmise (such as how the hell did Bloom's character, a lowly blacksmith became a masterful tactician--answer, he obviously had travel time to get to the holy land. Should I have to figure this out though?). Troy just seemed like someone's bad masterbatory move. Surprised you didn't mention King Arthur in that slew of period films. Haven't seen Alexander.

Its actually not as bad as the others. I dig the Arthurian lore, so this different take on the legend intrigued me enough to sit through the director's cut. Well, that and it was free, same as Kingdom of Heaven.
