What's the street price on this thing? I might pick it up....I still likes me some Wilco and have always enjoyed them live.

I'd love to like those A Ghost is Born songs more too because while I dont think tha that record is crap, I just think that it is very underwhelming.

That's reasonable; I'll probly swing by the old Best Buy and grab it. Actually, there's a NEW Best Buy pretty near my house but I'm not sure if it's open yet.

My first reaction is always to say I hate it but I really don't hate it..what I hate is that I don't like it much at all and that I have lost any expectation that any of their future work is going to be Being There/Summerteeth level qual.

I'm really liking this. Top-notch quality from a live show. If anyone is interested in a "preview", pm for a YSI linky.

Disagree. As a huge wilco fan I have to say I found it annoying as all fuck.

There were about three songs on there that I really liked and that's it. YHF in my opinion is 100 times better in the songwriting department.

And Spiders? Jesus. Song irritates the hell out of me. And live I always find myself going to the restroom during it so I can avoid it.

I'll throw my hat into the mix. I haven't bought it, but I have heard the recordings through a leak. To me, the problem is overdubs. Obviously most bands aren't going to release a live document "as is" but Wilco seemed to go an extra step. It seems crowd noise, stage banter, etc was filtered out to make this a ho-hum release. Being a Wilco fan, I'm gonna pick it up, but I have to agree with whoever said that if you have pre-existing Wilco live recordings, this one you can probably pass on. Also, it would appear to me that if the DVD was scrapped due to the poor quality, that says something for the show as well. Still, even if it would've been a smash-bang throw together, I would've liked to have had it just for the document of the live show.

I thought the DVD was scrapped not because of the quality, but because Tweedy didn't like the style in which it had been filmed?

well, we can agree to disagree. i think spiders might be the most incredible song i've ever witnessed live.
out of curiousity, what are the three songs you did like from the album?

I've heard conflicting reports on the DVD. Word on Via Chicago was a little of both. Who knows for real.

Tweedy did say this though: ""Some of the reasons were technical, some of it had to do with the way it was shot. The footage ended up being really claustrophobic. Basically, it gets down to my feeling that the audience should be a part of any live document. You should get a sense of the audience, a sense of the time and place. And the footage didn't do that."

So I guess you are right. Sorry. I actually had to go back and research that a bit.

Also, don't know if anyone saw this but there is apparently a Itunes only track..."Monday" from the sessions. Course since I don't own the disc yet, and only heard a dl I can't say whether this is on the disc, but a secret track, etc. It has horns from what I've heard as well.

and there actually is some pretty good stage banter/crowd involvement included.

I'm going to disagree based on previous shows I've dled. Tweedy & co. have been more lively, in my opinion, on other shows. I just think that its kind of not the best representation of the band live. I'm not saying for people not to buy it, but I would say don't think this is THE BAND live.

Are you sure you're hearing a leak of the actual live album and not some soundboard recording? Because there is very clearly a LOT of audience in this recording, moreso than I hear on many other un-overdubbed live albums. This is one of the most "live" sounding live albums I've ever heard. Tweedy's voice and guitar actually sound like they were recorded from the auditorium sound and not a direct feed into the recorder - it's very warm and has a hollowness to it that sounds completely different than you normally hear. The whole thing sounds like a very, very clean audience recording that has been given the royal treatment, and definitely anything but a cleaned-up, overdubbed soundboard. I would guess there isn't a single overdub on the entire thing. Any additional instrumental parts flown-in after the fact would stick out like a sore thumb on a mix as raw and open as this.

Really, dude, I think you're not listening to what we're listening to - you really sound like you're listening to an entirely different recording. If not, you really must have your hearing checked - this is one of those times when I can safely tell someone that if they want to check out what the band is like live, I'd happily recommend this live album. While it can't possibly recreate the effect of actually being there, it is an honest portrayal of what a Wilco show actually feels like.

that whole statement hurts me, especially the going to the bathroom during spiders business. i can definitely see why you feel this way about wilco at this point if you're leaving shows during what is often the best part of them. i'll all for the direction they've taken up, in fact i'm the one hoping for a 30-minute spiders whenever they start it up.

This is where I am, except I'm not a huge Wilco fan. I like 'em, just not "huge". I also second the previous statement that I'm bored with this band for a while. Maybe not bored, but I seem to like them less as time passes.

If I have one complaint about the 2CD, it's that there is no accompanying live footage...but that's more a statement about how cool/solid this sounds. I end up wanting a visual experience to go along with it. The mix is stellar...
