my bet will be that if you search finished auctions on ebay, the 52 has a higher resale value.

Sorry I was out for the rest of this...

Yes, the deluxe is probably he better (for you) of the two. The switching on the 52 comes the way they used to, which is such that you can't have both pickups on at the same time, and that's a useful setting. It comes with a wiring diagram and a capacitor, but something tells me you ain't gonna bust out no soldering iron.

Maple and rosewood fretboards are about 95% cosmetic. One isn't really harder than the other, though the rosewood will not have any finish on it (doesn't need it, contains a lot of natural oil) and the maple will... sometimes the strings slide better when you'r bending on finished maple, but again it's a gnat's whisker of difference. The type of wood on your fretboard makes just the tiniest bit of any difference on your sound, so really it's just about what you like to look at.

The binding is also mostly cosmetic, but there's an angle there that's not to be missed: it signals "qual" very loudly. No cheapshit guitars ever have binding - there's no cheap way to mass produce it. So it really makes the thing Pop visually, and helps with resale (although you'll be selling it to me, and I'll be lowballing you anyway.)

If you're selling it to Squirggle, just ask him what he wants. If you're selling it to me, i'd like the 52.

As much as I'd like to help you boys out I'll probably keep it and get a good acoustic in the future sometime. I don't think I could part with something so purdy.

So Cap, does the Deluxe come with the "qual" binding?

I have a sunburst telecaster and I love it. I use it as an alternative to the SG. plays great, and sounds awesome through my hot rod deville

The deluxes don't seem to come with binding anymore. Mine, from '97, does. It was also a 3-pickup model, similar to strat, but I rewired it so I could turn off the middle pickup and get the usual sound if desired.

Dang. I love me some binding, too. They change those deluxes like every two years.

Par example... the deluxe in 2001 had it:

So after months of waiting and basically giving up that this was going to happen this arrived to me today:

1969 Fender Thinline Telecaster, Sunburst

Turns out the Deluxe was too much to really ask for and I asked for this one which is less pricey.

My month has just been made.
