I thought about including it, but figured it was down on most people's RH list.

I went with Fugazi because I love that album, but truth be told my top 3 from 2001 aren't on the list.

The only notable omissions not on the omissions list that I can think of are
Need New Body - s/t
Cannibal Ox - The Cold Vein

These are all awesome:
Spade Kitty Wrote:
# The Boredoms * Vision, Creation, Newsun (WEA Japan) <---thought this was 2000, or maybe even 1999 in Japan
# The Microphones * The Glow, Pt. 2 (K)
# Prefuse 73 * Vocal Studies & Uprock Narratives (Warp)
# Tortoise * Standards (Thrill Jockey)
# Explosions In The Sky * Those Who Tell the Truth Shall Die, Those Who Tell the Truth Shall Live Forever (Temporary)
# Autechre * Confield (Warp)
# Califone * Roomsound (Perishable)
# Mouse On Mars * Idiology (Thrill Jockey)
# Angels Of Light * How I Loved You (Young God)
# Fantomas * The Director's Cut (Ipecac)
# Low * Things We Lost In The Fire (Kranky)
# cLOUDDEAD (Mush/Big Dada)
# Dntel * Life Is Full Of Possibilities (Plug Research)
# Jackie-O Motherfucker * Liberation (Road Cone)
# Lightning Bolt * Ride The Skies (Loud)
# No-Neck Blues Band * Sticks And Stones May Break My Bones (Revenant)
# OOIOO * Feather Float (Birdman)
# Plaid * Double Figure (Warp)
# Senor Coconut * El Gran Baile (Emperor Norton)

IMO 2001 is the best year of the decade so far.

Here's my Top 10:

1. Low - Things We Lost
2. Need New Body
3. Microphones - The Glow Pt. 2
4. Fugazi - The Argument
5. Lightning Bolt - Ride the Skies
6. cLOUDDEAD
7. Autechre - Confield
8. Mouse on Mars - Ideology
9. Tortoise - Standards
10. JOMF - Liberation

This is a really, really hard choice for me as it was one of my favorite years for music.

I may have to go with The Strokes though since I was seriously in a music funk and that album brought me out of it.

This was massively tough to call, but in the end I went with Ryan Adams' Gold. I love Is This It? quite a lot, but overall just enjoy this more and tend to listen to it more (although lately that hasn't been the case). Same with MMJ, love it, but not my favourite overall. Other notables for me are are Starsailor's Love is Here and Sahara Hotnights' Jennie Bomb. Other picks would include:

Mercury Rev - All is Dream
Radiohead - Amnesiac
Stereolab - Sound-dust
Soundtrack of Our Lives - Behind the Music
Rufus Wainwright - Poses
Sloan - Pretty Together
Daft Punk - Discovery
Whiskeytown - Pneumonia
Macy Gray - The Id
Guided by Voices - Isolation Drills
Spoon - Girls Can Tell
White Stripes - White Blood Cells
Shins - Oh Inverted World

I had to go other for Orlando Conchaito Lopez "Conchaito" - the only album from that year to make my listmania.

Los Afro Salseros de Senegal -- En La Habana
Marcos Valle -- Escape

are the only two albums I really like not included on your others list that I can think of.

I think Jay Z -- Blueprint was the biggest for that year. I'm hardly an expert either though.

I'm a big fan of these:

# Nicolai Dunger * Soul Rush (Delores/Lakeshore)
# Pernice Brothers * The World Won't End (Ashmont)
# Jim O'Rourke * Insignificance (Drag City)
# Unwound * Leaves Turn Inside You (Kill Rock Stars)
# Joe Strummer & the Mescaleros * Global A Go-Go (Hellcat)
# The American Analog Set * Know By Heart (Tiger Style)
# Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds * No More Shall We Part (Elektra)
# You Am I * Dress Me Slowly (BMG)
# Joe Henry * Scar (Mammoth)

# Cesaria Evora * Sao Vicente (World Circuit)
# Teenage Fanclub * Howdy! (Thirsty Ear)
# Clem Snide * The Ghost Of Fashion (spinART)
# The Chamber Strings * Month Of Sundays (Bobsled)
# Leonard Cohen * Ten New Songs (Columbia)
# Alejandro Escovedo * A Man Under the Influence (Bloodshot)
# Orlando "Cachaito" Lopez * Cachaito (Nonesuch)
# The White Stripes - White Blood Cells
# The Shins - Oh, Inverted World
# My Morning Jacket - At Dawn

I may have missed it but I don't think:

The New Year "Newness Ends"

was mentioned yet. That was certainly top ten for me and one of the ones I still listen to most regularly from 2001.

My bad. I see it on the omissions list now. Still, great album that deserves the extra shout out.

Bluerprint was highly celebrated by hard core hip hop fans and backpackers alike, but it wasn't one of my favorite Jay Z albums.

OK, I've never been one to gripe about omissions from the poll because, as Spade points out, there are only 9 spots. But not putting Jay-Z's "Blueprint" in there while including Fennesz (I don't even know who that is) and a mediocre Built To Spill record is kinda ridiculous.
Also, System of a Down's record demands consideration, as does Bob Dylan's "Love and Theft"

I'm voting "other" for Jimmy Eat World's "Bleed American".

Also, Fennesz is pretty damn cool, and many fans of electronic music see that as kind of a landmark record.

I think 01' was an unbelieveable year for music. Alot of great albums and it's a toos up to me between White Stripes - WBC and Strokes - Is This It. But there is tons of great stuff from that year.

While I've got no problem with Fennesz's inclusion on the list (though personally I think Endless Summer is overrated and not his best), I do think those Bjork and MMJ albums could have been left off in favor in of Low (wouldn've gotten at least 3 votes) and probably Jay-Z.

But like everyone else has said, this was Spade's idea, and he's doing a great job overall. Recent years are probably the toughest ones to narrow down.

Maybe he meant GBV...we'll always disagree with some of the selections. its only really an issue if you leave out a candidate likely to win and I don't see Jay Z beating the Strokes or White Stripes on an indie board.

I'm surprised no one is voting for At Dawn ...that's by far their best IMO and I thought they had many fans here.

bold move on Bleed American, swiateck - that's a great pop record.

i definitely agree that Low probably deserves a spot more than bjork, mmj or bjork.
