What kind of music does he like, Timmy?

I think NakedPrey and Spoon will have some suggestions here, but here are some:
* If he is likely to enjoy early emo-ish (think SDRE) rock, try Poor Old Lu's "Sin" or "Picture of the Eighth Wonder", or Roseblossom Punch's album (I think it was self-titled, and will be hard to find). Jesse Sprinkle, from both bands, has put out decent solo stuff too.
* If he might like girls with great voices, then Over the Rhine's "Good Dog/Bad Dog" or an Innocense Mission album or Venus Hum's "Big Beautiful Sky" would be good.

If he would be into kind of cheesy Christian powerpop, there is a spate of bands to suggest, but I just don't know if I can recommend any in good conscience.

Starflyer 59 is Excellent. They thank Jesus on every album.
--Very diverse catalog. My favorite is "Everybody Makes Mistakes".

Ester Drang -- Infinite Keys is very good down tempo indie Jesus music.
I like this disc alot depending on my mood.

Of the two. Timmy, you would like SF59. They are up your alley.

The Starflyer 59 I sampled was too rough.

The best one that I have found so far is: Number One Gun (Tooth & Nail)
http://www.purevolume.com/numberonegun

He likes stuff like this, but I was looking for something a bit more emo, like a cross between this and Pedro the Lion.
I'm following a dream here aren't I? haha

Haq, I'll look into that stuff. Being from Cincinnati, everyone here knows Over-The Rhine. ;)

Then most anything on the Fax label. (All instrumental ambient and electronica -- some have samples, though.) Try any of the Dark Side of the Moog series.

yeah, i actually think "much afraid" is more interesting and like it better, but i feel like that's mostly their producer's doing. "hymn" is great.

I would have to 2nd starflyer 59...and I'm a scary bible burning Jew

Leave here a stranger is a fantastic indie pop record. (I noticed you mentioned their sound being a bit rough...its mostly just on the early records)

Also:
John Davis-S/T
and if you can find an old Tooth & Nail record from Joe Christmas...now that's good word of a supposed lord.

In addition to most of what has been mentioned, I recommend listening to sound samples at the following links. These are pretty much the only reputable labels associated with Christian indie rock. They have no distribution to Christian bookstores....

Northern Records
http://www.northernrecords.com/artists.php

Velvet Blue Records
http://www.velvetbluemusic.com/

And I can always recommend anything by this band to anybody here without hesitation, especially fans of Echo and the Bunnymen, early U2, Cocteau Twins, etc.....

Yeah but their GREAT stuff is hard to find. Also, they are generally only appreciated by those who are into classic rock like Rolling Stones, U2, REM, The Police, etc. It's hard to get younger folks into them cause their best albums have older production values.

But yeah, if one can get his/her hands on Sticks and Stones, the self titled, Pray Naked, or Drowning With Land in Sight...those are solid.

I've heard rap albums with a deeper premise.
