DEFINITELY a grower, and you have to get past the vocals for a while, but it later becomes part of the charm.

If I've learned anything from this place, it's that if I've seen enough love for a band, then it has to have some sorta redeeming quality somehow. I struggled to remember this last night as that sweater-clad pillow biter reluctantly moaned his way through a very ordinary guitar pop song.

What song did they do last night?

Typing up Version 43 of a fucking boring ass paper. And I'm headed into school in about 4 minutes to go meet with the group and re-do it AGAIN.

...says Sweaterfan Numero Uno!!!!

It ain't cold on the set of Conan. They had every intention of looking like they just stepped out of a locally-owned fair trade coffee shop and happened to stumble on stage.

Hey! Some of the babes that work at those fair-trade shoppes are quite cute.

... Not those from Alterra, though. Snooty-ass bitches. (And, no, I have never asked one of 'em out, and been SHOT. DOWN.) Otherwise, though... Good stuff. The twenty-years-old, glitter-faced, scapularly-tattooed waitress at Comet, with the thirty-years-old Twin Peaks obsessive (ironically, prolly) hipster boyfriend who's turned her on to coke, especially.

Her colleague a coupla years older, with the mime-styled sweater ain' bad to look at either.

I still dig this band and thought their live performance was quite good. Though, I didn't see them on Conan.

Haq digs sweaters. Who knew?

I tossed this band away after one listen. If The Wrens can get so much hate around here, I can sure hate on these fools without a second thought.

Well, everyone except Allison Krauss. I think she is incapabl;e of sounding bad.

And yes, I saw the performance by CYHSY and have to agree that although people may like their album I would never fork out cash to hear someone purposefully make music sound bad. One of the reasons why I can't listen to Desaparecidos...that intentional off-key shit really bugs me.

Not that the the CYHSY guy was intentionally off-key, but if he was trying to sound that bad I don't care how good the words or music are. It was horrible.

I only heard one song, I'll have to hear the whole thing sometime. Being a fan of warbled vocals and all..

I like the vocal style. It's the type of thing that can work in a studio where you can pick the best take and make sure the vocals aren't too overbearing in the mix, but live it can suck. I imagine Jeff Mangum would be this way.

For awhile at the record store all we would hear was: "Do you have that band Clap Your Hands Say Yeah"? Blah Blah Blah.

It sold like hotcakes.

Sounds pretty meh, IMO. Kinda riding the Talking-Heads influence wave started by the Arcade Fire.

Of course I automatically dismissed them based on their name because my brain only has space for a certain number of similar band names:

the Yeah Yeah Yeahs
The Shout Out Louds
Chk Chk Chk
Shout Out Out Out
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
the Clap
Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah

if the music was even half-decent i could grin and bare it, but the whole package just blows.

Another deaf, dumb, and blind kid that loves this album. I don't stay up late enough to watch Conan but I've seen bands I like give dreadfully awful performances all the time. On the boots I've heard the whiney voice is pretty much the same as on the studio versions so he can pull it off, at least to the point of being as bad sounding.

I dunno, I can't stand the sound of Dylan's voice and yet he's a god to many. At least with CYHSY I like the music.

Top 10'r for me.
