In that case... I don't necessarily think in terms of people having "premonitions" of their deaths, but given the proximity of Arik's split with Likud and the two distinct cardiac episodes, I have to think that he had gotten a medical report recently that left him quite disturbed. (Since Israeli gov't does not report on their leaders's physicals, we won't know if this is the case, of course.) Sharon was realizing he's at death's door, and knew that if he died tomorrow - by which I mean, the day after he got the news - he would much more likely be memorialized as a war-monger and road-block to an easing and dissipation (hope against hope, for that, anyway) of hostilities in Israel and surrounding territory. He didn't particularly want that, though. So, a re-doubled effort to pick up the pieces he himself had been a principal to scattering.... Prolly all for naught, now, though.
