Whoever goes to this tour, please kick the guys from Growing in the nuts - hard enough so they know that they shouldn't play anymore music.

Growing absolutely ruined a perfectly good show for me in Philly last year. Gang Gang Dance -> Growing -> Animal Collective. I wore ear protection and I still had hearing problems after the Growing set. If it would've been interesting I wouldn't have cared, but it sucked - BAD. By the time AC came on, I was angry and had a headache.

Growing sucks. Period.

Now Mogwai - that would be a show I'd like to see, but I'm not paying $16 to see em here in Asheville so Growing can piss me off again.

I'm sure that the one show you saw was completely representative of every show they've ever played / will play.

hey, I'm also missing the Duke-UNC game tonight to see Mogwai instead. I just realized this. Man what spectacularly bad planning.

I'm out of town. Mogwai at Sonar would be fucking awesome though.

Alarming Kids These Days Fact: I asked Scottish Student if he would be going, and SS had never heard of any of my top 5 scottish bands. He thinks I am ooooollld and weeeeeird.

Mogwai Add More U.S. Dates

Quanah Humphreys reports:
In the Godzilla movies, big G cuts an initial swathe of destruction across a city, takes a breather to regroup, and then comes storming back to put the hurt on any remaining buildings and random gaijin.

Distinguished Scotsmen Mogwai will follow that same plan later this spring. After their April 30 Coachella appearance, the band will take a few days off to restring guitars and realign their chakras before turning back around and leveling the States with an additional series of tour dates. Gotta get the chakra aligned if you're going on a multi-state stomp; it's how G-Zilla is able to keep coming back after 50 years.

(Side note: Why isn't there a rapper named G-Zilla yet?)

Antsy Mog-watchers can keep tabs on the band through the website Follow the Beast (named in honor of their latest album, Mr. Beast. It's a crazy tech mash-up of Google mappage, Flickr image, and YouTube, um, YouTubeage that documents Mogwai's every move on their current U.S. tour. Send them your media from a Mogwai show and they'll use it on the site. It's kind of like shooting and uploading fuzzy cameraphone pics of Bigfoot except we're pretty sure Mogwai are real.

The numbers of the Beast:

The show on Wednesday was good once they stopped playing their pretty short songs and started playing their heavy, long songs. I left before the encore (assumming they had one) since I had a 2 hour drive home. They played for a little over an hour with material from CODY, Rock Action and Mr. Beast, I believe, along with a few songs that were familiar but I couldn't place which album they were off of.

I ended up going to see them last night in Asheville. I guess they were having some equipment problems again and they took a brief break after three songs.

I don't even pretend to know which albums the material was off of, but they've probably got the setlist up at their tour log (I think it's www.followthebeast.com or something like that). They sounded good and the show was enjoyable. Granted, I'd had a few beers so any problems with the show were easily smoothed over.

And I take back what I said about Growing. Sure, they managed to blow the power again, but they had some more interesting things going on with their music than last time. Obviously, their sound has grown (pun intended). His Return was an alright album and I went ahead and bought the new one (Color Wheel, I think it's called) based on what I was hearing. I haven't had a chance to check it out yet, but will give it a good listen later today.

Yea, I actually enjoyed Growing's set. Reminded me of Black Dice or Wolf Eyes.
