I also forgot to add Beck and Britt Daniel for the "White" Prince falsetto

good call.

Along the same line, though obviously a pale immitation of the original, Chris Isaac does a decent job of tributing Orbison.

I also forgot to mention my favorite reggae voices - Toots Hibbert and Gregory Isaacs

Not that he's technically a "good" singer or anything, but I always liked Billy Corgan's voice.

I got your back Matt.

I used to love David Coverdale and Ian Atsbury.

Now I'm more towards Ben Gibbard.

Edit: Roy Orbison, Johnny Cash and Neko Case have great voices. I think unique and being able to carry a tune is the key.

Bon Scott could've eaten Eddie Vedder's entire family and not even remembered it the next day.

I'll second:

Peter Gabriel
Freddie Mercury
David Bowie (recently saw A Knight's Tale -- when that first "Angel" leaps out at you, it immediately got my attention, he has a very distinctive voice and style, despite being as varietous as he is)
Halford
Dio
Dickinson -- the metal trifecta, if you will

and raise you:

Ian Anderson (amusing, witty, smart, snarky, voice like well-worn leather -- what's not to love?)
Chris Rea (there's something about the fact that he's centered his entire career around a Leonard Cohen immitation that I just appreesh)
Tori Amos (fuckin' aye girls are allowed)
Ann Wilson (like I said)
Chris Thompson (Manfred Mann's Earth Band, Alan Parsons Project, Jeff Wayne)
James Baker (Rorschach Test -- you know how they say a certain famous singer's voice sounds like sandpaper? His sounds like a chainsaw ripping through flesh)
Peter Toole (Type O Negative)

This is your penis.

...no, he's probably still about the same size. Just weighs less.

As has been said... Peter Gabriel. Go get a live version of Red Rain and listen to the authentic, and desperate, passion and pain.

As far as "chops", Sam Cooke had all the tools.

Van Morrison deserves a nod for creating a whole genre just by being alive.

The young Paul Westerberg was powerful.

Tweedy is underrated... he's a great minimalist stylist, even when he screams.

Women? I am sucker for that British womanly thing... Sandy Deny, Kate Bush... even the woman from Portishead. The woman in The Delays.

But who can not bow down to P.J. Harvey?

Jimmy Gnecco, Freddie Mercury, Jim Morrison, Jeff Buckley, Layne Staley, and Dax Riggs are some of my favorite singers.

Cornell could really wail in his prime, like on Badmotorfinger. But he's lost it.

For the people who mentioned Mike Patton, where should I start off when it comes to him? I've heard he's kind of abrasive, but I've been into singers like that more and more lately.
