Agreed. And its goddamn Gary Barnett's fault. When other people saw that you could take Northwestern to the Rose Bowl, they started expecting the quick fix everywhere.[/quote]

Has there ever been such a mediocre coach with as questionable of ethics as Barnett to survive in the college ranks for as long as he did and be praised for it. His career mark is 85-89-2. He had losing seasons his last two years at Northwestern and skipped town for Colorado, where they only care if you can beat Nebraska about once every five to ten years.

What more do you want from a coach? Nobody can do what Pete Carrol has done at USC. Nobody has ever won 3 straight Nat'l Championships. That is rare what he did. The most you can ask for is to win your conference and be in the hunt to win it all.

For the record, Pete Carroll has only one Nat'l Championship. Last three BCS National Champions (which, BTW is the system that all of these schools agreed to, so dont even give me that AP Champions crap. If that was the case, UGA would have won at least 14 titles since 1980 as the Krauth Family Champions):

LSU
USC
Texas

Thank you. It's nice to see someone from outside LA say it every once in a while. Die Herbstreit.

Touchy... Is it because you know that what the Grapist did to those kids would have been nothing compared to what USC would have done to LSU in the Sugar Bowl?

Seriously, were you to be able to say that the Tigers were the superior team, you wouldn´t be so defensive... But you know that your boys lucked out by the BCS being a steaming pile and keeping an inferior (to USC and LSU, both) OU team in the title game.

Hahah.

But you can always fall back on this, knowing that it could never happen. I would have relished a shot at USC that year. The defensiveness comes from the "USC on a pedestal" syndrome of the last few years, not a lack of confidence in LSU's ability to beat them. I mean, how ridiculous does that ESPN "Greatest Teams Ever" series look now?

I'll add that Mel Kiper (yes, I'm paraphrasing Kiper) said that most NFL scouts commented that LSU was the more talented team. He said that shocked him.

Off the top of my head the talent on that team

Michael Clayton - Nfl starter, rookie of the year
Bradie James - NFL starter
Chad Lavalais - NFL starter
Randall Gay - contributer/ NFL starter
Cory Webster - NFL starter
Travis Daniels - Nfl contributer
Matt Mauck - NFL Back up
Laron Landry - Future top ten pick
Marquise Hill - NFl contibuter
Dominick Davis - NFL starter
Marcus Spears - NFL starter

But whatever. USC scored alot of points in the Pac-10 so they must be awesome. Let's be honest. I thought the Pac10 was okay this year, but the previous two years was a joke. Might has well won the MAC.

I think Richt is overrated as a play caller. He is a good recruiter, but in clutch situations his teams never play to the talent they have. It has pissed me off since he started in Athens (starting with the DUMB ASS playclock/end-zone debacle against Auburn). UGA has so much fucking cash, this is like pocket change to keep him in town.

I'll agree with this, especially that Auburn play, but if dude gets in the Zone, Richt's a genius, just like teh Verron Haynes Fullback Under play from Tennessee that same year.

He does make questionable calls sometimes, but I'd rather keep him than let him get away to Miami or FSU.

The one thing that I REALLY love about him is that when he came to Athens he said he didn't want to leave FSU unless it was to coach in a place where he knew he would stay 25 years. I hope he stays longer.

Dave,

you're in denial bud. Did you watch the 2004 season? Richt's terrible red-zone play calling and the the poor execution of said plays lead Billy Bennett to be the SEC's all-time leading scorer. We consistently choked in scoring situations.

Didn't you call me out earlier in the season for being a typical fairweather dawgs fan for questioning Richt'a play calls?

I can say with a straight face that LSU would have handily beat that USC team.

<---Biased towards SEC

BCS Champ=Nat'l Champ, you can't cut and run from the system you set up. ABC and ESPN are pathetic for not standing by LSU during this year's Rose Bowl (when I heard them say "going for 3" I about threw up)
