Rads, I know you are pissed off that you are stuck in a plastic prison somewhere in the Northwest Terrirtories, but Def Leppard and Bon Jovi?

FUCKING QUAL

Ok, its POP. Its PAP, Its Awesome. Fuck, I even liked the Jov's "Its My Life"

and I like the Dixie Chicks.

MF DOOM/Madvillain gets the fucking Gasface though.

Def Leppard? You can't have it both ways. If you defend Def Leppard you MUST defend Bon Jovi as well - it's the exact same template. Except with mullets.

Interesting, but I don't quite buy this.

I'd say Bon Jovi stole more from the Bruce Springsteen school of Jersey-working-guy-and-his-girl-against-the-world model, but with fancier jeans, frostier hair, and noodlier guitar solos. Jon was dying to rewrite "Out in the Streets" and "The River."

Leppard I would say was part AC-DC, part Priest, part Raspberries, and all cowbell. More minor key.

But the two do share humongous GANG VOCALS.

Songs from 7800 Fahrenheit do sound similar to songs on High and Dry. Allmusic calls Bon Jovi a cross between Def Lep and Springsteen, a comparison that is pretty apt, actually.

I can only listen to the hair metal stuff when I'm in some sort of wierd mood

like last night, while I was doing my taxes, all of a sudden I really needed to hear some Whitesnake

BTW, I ended up getting a bigger refund than I expected...thank you David Coverdale!!!

Nico.

I don't care if she was hot and hung with Andy Warhol and was associated with the Velvet Underground - she should have been shot and sent to the glue factory where she belonged.

Def Leppard's "Bringin' on the Heartbreak" is still a great song. The follow up album to High N Dry, Pyromania, for better (likely worse) brought about the entire hair metal Poison/Bon Jovi template, but you got to give 1980 through 1985 Def Leppard a little bit of credit. They were unique back in the day with the Mutt Lange sound, multiple guitar leads, and great background harmonies.

They jumped the shark with me with "pour some sugar on me" and other stadium anthems. They were a quality band tho at one time to my ears.

so says I in a weak attempt to defend a band I liked back in junior high.

Way better looking everywhere but this photoshoot, where she looks mean, hard, and nasty. She cute.

Hot and hung is a good description, because Nico is a Shemale.

Agree. High and Dry and Pyromania were miles above the hair metal that followed.

I'll second the Nico thing, but I've never been a VU guy anyway. Not that I would add them here, though.

I'll also vouch for early-'80s Def Leppard -- ESPECIALLY High-n-Dry. I can not vouch for a single note of Bon Jovi outside of "Runaway."

On a related note, whatever happened to Aldo Nova?

I'd agree with much of what yer sayin', except I think the shark jumping started with parts of the Pyromania album. Before that, DL was a totally creditable NWOBHM band.

Bon Jovi, on the other hand, have pretty much always sucked. The Springsteen comparisons are apt - the band has always been a waaaaaay watered down, cliche-ridden version of Dah Boss.

The video for "Fantasy" is one of the funniest things I've ever seen. I've got their two records at home, and every once in a while will throw on "Monkey On Your Back". Makes the whole Def Leppard argument moot.

Because anyone listening to Def Leppard could have and should have been listening to Aldo Nova. It renders them superfluous.

I don't think they needed Aldo Nova to be rendered superfluous. *

* And remember...I LIKE the first 2 DL albums.

Something you'll never comprehend, because to you every disagreement is politics/war - just because somebody dislikes something popular does not mean they dislike it BECAUSE it's popular. The fact that you still cannot spot the most obvious logical fallacies = one forty-nothing on the LSAT.
