Lol. I'd listen to you before I listened to a guy calling me an asshole.

It's a snotty loogie, though. Doesn't that count?

I call them pavement omelettes. (Snotty loogies, that is...not besieged cyclists.)

They're best after they've crystalized in the hot sun.

But which is worse- snot on the pavement or littering?

wow.
what trials and tribulations your life must be full of.

a ha! i knew this board had to have some jerks on it. thought you guys were all a little too nice.

i could've said, "being an insanely hot girl on a bike", but i didn't because i'm not "insanely hot". i'm just not ugly and i'm a girl and sometimes that's all it takes for a shithead to be interested.

and having someone driving next to you while yelling obscenities is EXTREMELY dangerous for both the driver and the bicyclist. it takes attention away from the road which could cause an accident for both.

At least all snot is biodegradable, except for Paris Hilton's, which is reproductive.

up until 5 years ago i was an avid cyclist, riding in both chicago and here in western mass. i've been called names, chased by dogs, run off the road by cars (landing in a rocky ditch once), hit by a car to the point of flipping up in tha air and landing on my head, AND given the finger by young kids on a school bus.

and i still think it's stupid to throw trash at people and spit on cars. between the traffic and road conditions it's hard enough to relax when i'm riding without carrying cyclist rage around with me. though it was pretty fun to give those kids the finger back at them. they laughed pretty hard.

obviously spitting is not the only way of getting out aggression, but how did you deal with the asshole drivers? they're usually few and far between, but riding in chicago, you must've encountered a few.

You're right. I missed that. My mistake.

This next thought isn't really red-specific, just a general thought.

I'm sure there are plenty of drivers who are dicks to people on bikes. I know because the same people are dicks to people in cars, too.

There are also dicks on bikes who don't believe that anything on two wheels ever makes a mistake or endangers anyone. And those people are wrong. If I hit someone on a bike, and it's 0% my fault, I have to carry that burden--not the dead asshole in spandex.

i called them as many horrible things in my head as possible and then i let it go.
i was usually grateful that it didn't turn into something worse.
riding in city traffic i was usually on my way to a bike path or quieter suburban streets so i knew i was on my way to a better ride. city riding is terribly stressful at times.

there are so many things wrong with these statements i don't even know where to begin. ummm....ugly girls (as you refer to them) never get verbally assaulted...and uumm...i'm horrible with words...where the hell is bluejayway when i need her?

and oh yeah, everybody looks like a mook with a bike helmet on.

Bah. The guys that yell at women from moving vehicles are rarely if ever deterred by looks (among other things).

sure, twist my words. that's always a fun message board game.

i'm sure that ugly girls get bothered, too. and i'm sure that guys get bothered on occasion as well.

so, you're more interested in picking apart my post versus agreeing or disagreeing with my point? here's a nice, plain revision of my point:

Being a person on a bicycle, I find that some drivers like to distract me while i'm riding down busy streets. I find that very unsafe and I wish it wouldn't happen.

Maybe you're distracting drivers with tight pants framing that sweet dumper.

This has been floating around in the mainstream & bike communities. I didn't read so much about the litter part but the keying of his car, which she swears she didn't is a hot topic around.

true, this is less about cycling and more about your attitude about yourself and other women.

that said, i agree with your point that one should not tangle with cars and the psychos often driving them. that is smart.

ok, I'll toss my .02 in here.

The story was horrible to read. Do I think she deserved it? No. Do I think she could have handled the litter in a different way? Yes. Like maybe riding up next to his car, holding the litter up and asking, "Did you mean to drop this on the ground? Because you did. Here ya go" And handing it back to him. Do I condone littering? Of course not, but I don't condone child/animal abuse either, but not everyone subscribes to my beliefs, unfortunately.

Fact of the matter is: if you're riding a bike on a road that is heavily trafficked by cars, (a) you need to follow traffic laws just like they do, and (b) you need to ride defensively, just like they teach you in driving class. I've had assholes run me off the road in rural areas where the signage is VERY clear that bikes travel the road often. I've had friends get pushed off their bikes by passengers leaning out their car window, just because they're being spiteful sons of bitches. In fact, just last year, my husband and one of his friends had a car pull up next to them and berate them, for no apparent reason except that they decided to ride through a cemetery on a day that the driver and passenger happened to attend a funeral/burial service. My husband was fearful for his life, as the guy appeared to be drunk, and who knows what he had in the car with him weapon-wise. Did he do anything about it? He just said "Sorry, man," looked away and kept riding. What else is there to do? Spitting on the guy's windshield would have just exacerbated things.

Portland is one of the most bike-friendly cities around, but we still have our issues. People still get hit by cars, due to their own negligence and otherwise. If it's my life we're talking about, no, I'm not going to challenge a driver.

ha, yeah. Here's an interesting story. Again, I don't condone the cyclist's actions, but as a city worker, the bus driver should never have opened the doors for this to happen.

Hey Moxie, maybe I should post a pic of male dogs humping each other for dominance next time Haq and Loogar go at it.

I would be more likely to harass a non-ugly before an ugly anyday. Riding a bike or not.

that's quite a statement to make about someone that you don't know. i definitely do NOT separate the ugly from non ugly. i really don't care. maybe it was a poor choice of words or maybe you just feel like digging a little deeper into a sentence that really didn't have that much meaning to begin with, who knows. i don't really have anything else to say about this.

bicycles rule, though.
