I don't know folks' tastes well enough to cater to everyone's tastes. But I think I have a better idea of what people like overall nowadays as opposed to back in 2002 when my mix pretty much seemed to fall flat.

Yeah, alright, why not? I've never done one of these. Adventure is go!

Count me in. Details, I need details.
Are we making copies for everybody or should we do a random 'yankee swap' type thing where you draw a name?
There should be some sort of deadline.

agreed. i'll throw out march 1, as the absolute latest. i can't imagine it taking more than a month to work on, finish, and send out one mix.

Yeah March 1st sounds good. I definitely need time to think about this.

I'm fine with March 1 if it works for everyone.

My thought was to make everyone copies, but I'm not doing custom mixes for everyone. I might think about doing a couple versions based on different groups of obners but realisticly I probably won't do that either.

If everyone can't make one for everyone and some want to do a smaller exchange then we can do a random 'yankee swap' exchange within the whole group but I'd imagine at least some of us would like to do a larger exchange too. I don't think one precludes the other. And I'm happy to make one for you whether I get one in return or not.

If anyone wants to do awards, I have no probs with that. But I'm mainly just interested in the exchanges, reviews and discussion threads.

I'd love to participate but with my computer in the shop, I'm uncertain as to when I'll have it back. If this is going on in about a week's time, I'll give it a shot.

hmm, that group idea is something for me to consider. i could definitely see myself making two mixes and then distributing them randomly.

also, is anyone going to have a problem with a cassette? i currently do not have a connection between my burner and my turntables, so i can make a disc from mp3s and cds, but would have to leave out records, which i feel is where my gold is.

I'd like to be in but my computer is prone to randomly shutting down and I'm not sure if it'll be worth it to start making a mix only to have it crash on me. I should be getting a new computer soon though so maybe then.

whew... thank goodness, I don't have time to make custom mixes either. I guess I feel like this mix exchange needs to be a representation of you and what you like. Not everybody's gonna like the same things, but hey, maybe you'll get exposed to something you haven't heard before.

I've already had a couple o' "theme" ideas:
-rainy day mix (considering it's been raining here almost solidly for 2 months)
-Goin' out mix (songs you put on to get yourself revved for your night out)
-Just random stuff that makes me happy

i'd love to, but I know DAMNED well I'd never get anything out by March 1, especially considering I can't brn CDs at home no more and would have to handmake like 20 CD covers.

best of luck tho.

I totally want in, especially since I haven't done this before. And I'm liking the whole "what makes me me" approach. Random stuff that has gotten me to where I am musically in my life.

So since I'm a newcomer at this, do we do one mix and send it out to the whole list of who's involved or are we getting paired up like that secret santa bidness?

You'll be getting a copy of this as well, missy. I think you may dig songs like "Tops" or "Blinded by Rainbows" ;)

billy g said a little bit on this, but i think it's open for discussion. i usually do a secret santa-type thing, but i also mostly do tapes, so that takes time. and burning a handful of discs is relatively quick.

I think it makes more sense to randomly draw names and you send a mix to that person. I certainly don't have the money or patience to burn and mail out 30 cd's to 30 people.

well, my thoughts were that we do both. We have one group including everyone who responded yes to this thread from which we do random pairings, and a smaller group that wants to exchange with anyone. I'm assuming that there might be half of us that want to do this.

Personally, I feel if I spend $50-60 on cdrs and postage but get back 20 or so mixes that's money well spent. But if some can't or don't want to exchange with everyone then that's cool too.

Count me out until I either (a) get my freakin' computer (aka burner) fixed, or (b) get a new computer.

But then, count me in.
