I Got Ish Wrote:
By being awesome.
here too.
after i graduated....i stayed in cincinnati for a couple of years. i had been promoted to supervisor at the answering service i was working at during school and was making pretty good money. working 2nd shift (as were my friends). so, everything was working out perfectly.
but then my friends started getting 1st shift jobs. so, it was getting to be that my schedule was completely different than everyone else's. and, i started realizing that i was kind of miserable not using the degree i had just gone to school for.
one night i got into an argument with one of my roommates and the next morning i decided i was moving back home (to cleveland).
so, i started sending out resumes.....(secretly). i didn't tell anyone i was leaving. i was coming up here a lot for interviews and such. but nothing was working out.
the last place i wanted to work was in my actual hometown. (i was hoping to work in the CITY of cleveland.) OR at a newspaper.
but, when i was called in for an interview with the editorial dept. of my hometown newspaper....i was too desperate to pass it up. (i had given myself a may 1st deadline to move from cincinnati. i was already behind schedule. this interview was ON april 28.) the interview went great. but at the end....was disappointed to hear that they didn't really have any openings available at the moment but that they will be keeping my resume on file.
this was on a thursday. feeling totally defeated. i had already moved MOST of my stuff up here. all i had left in cincinnati was my clothes, my stereo and my cat.
THEN.... on may 1st. the hr lady here called me and said that i was HIGHLY referred by the editor for a position they needed to fill in advertising. he said that this company NEEDED me here. i had NEVER thought of working in the advertising field. but she explained the job. i KNEW i could do it. and was flattered that the editor had deemed me so worthy to snatch up in any way they could. that day i had an interview on the phone with my current boss and was offered the position on the spot. i accepted and turned my 2 weeks notice in to my old company. it was a whirlwind. but everything felt so right.
now, almost 6 years later.... i'm still here. and i've gained some responsibilities. including my own 2 page section in the sunday paper and loads and loads of page design skills.
99% of the time, i love my job.
sometimes i regret leaving my old life in cincinnati. but then i just realize it's time to head back to see my friends.
