The three songs I listened to were ok. I'll render full judgement later.

I like the Flaming Lips plenty but they are dangerously close to being a band that like the idea of as opposed to the musical output.

Soft Bulletin is a masterpiece

fair play. that's why this album is such a let down.

Am I the only person on earth who thinks that "The Soft Bulletin" is grossly overrated as a "classic"?

I mean, its an enjoyable album and all but......

it's in no way one of my classic releases, but it's a hell of an album.

I'll take Mercury Rev's Deserter's Songs over it every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

And Yoshimi may be a better record[/blasphemy]

I don't understand why Mercury Rev is pretty much universally trashed, while Flaming Lips get away with recording stuff like "The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song."

after a listen, my opinion is that it's pretty lame and uneventful. "The Wizard Turns On" is the only tune that had me look up and see which track it was.
I think this sounds exactly like SFA's last one, Love Kraft. They're both unbelievably joyless attempts at trying to capture a sound both bands used to be experts in.

you are dead right.

interestingly enough, both of these bands are the supossed "saviors of music" in BeeOK's mind.

sucks for him, and anyone else that thinks the shit these bands try to pass off is even remotely interesting.

Yeah it sucks for me, I’m not as cool as you are Dalen…

I haven’t posted on this site for about 10 days, I thought I would bring to light this leak and this is what I get. It’s getting to a point that Obner is no longer fun to post at for me anymore. I know I should quit my whining but it’s hard to detach from this board when I have been around for almost four years now. Plus I really love this place so.

I will agree that I do think the Flaming Lips and Super Furry Animals are two of the best bands we have right now that have been around for over ten years. I have also stated that Love Kraft was a let down for SFA standards but still has some beautiful music on it. I don’t own it, which is saying a lot, as I have all their singles and albums but nothing from 2005. I like this new Flaming Lips album so sue me if you wish.

Warning - Opinions Ahead:

They "get away" with recording stuff like that because they have a recording budget and some creative control. I happen to think it's a really lame song, but they can do what they want with their time and money. With that said, I can name whole Mercury Rev albums that are just as bad as that tune - they jumped the shark in the mid-90s, while the Flaming Lips kept it going a little longer.

So people seem to love this album or hate it, been checking out all the chatter. I have only heard it twice but really like it. I have never seen such a fine line drawn when an album has leaked can't wait for Radiohead.

Anyways, I have given it away to about 20 s1skers in the last two days and haven't been on all that much or have I?

I agree that SFA's last one was just "okay." But anyone who claims their best-of isn't "remotely interesting" is listening to a completely different band than I am, I think.

One of the best best-of's ever.

Also Flaming Lips are one of those bands I want to purchase the CD from. Want to support them.

I've heard five or six of the songs and it's definitely worthwhile. Top 20? Maybe not, but I'll still buy it.
