ugh, dunno.... brought a can of soup. Was supposed to ride my bike during lunch hour until I got roped into a meeting at 1 today. Will probably still ride my bike. Will I eat? That remains to be seen. Just hoovered down some apple/cinnamon instant oatmeal. Hope it holds me til 3 pm!

yes. they sell the frozen white castles. but they aren't the same because there are no pickles on them.

as for thai....i've never had it. but i've been meaning to try it but i want to have it with someone knowledgeable about thai food...and none of my friends here have had it.

2. This is incomprehensible to me. You need to be changing that stat. It's like chinese food, except less greasy and more vegetables, with way better flavorings and spices. I'll pencil you in for some crash course dining cuisine before our pencilled in marraige.

see. you're just so full of good ideas. pickles in the fridge. great idea. (i know. it seems like a no-brainer....but i never buy pickles.)

wait. i did buy one of those little thai food bowls once to try it.... and it tasted like spicy peanutbutter over noodles. i didn't really enjoy that....and figured that it simply couldn't be indicative of all thai food.

please tell me that is true.

you can't tell me you are letting an instance of eating frozen food keeping you from eating it?
Those rice bowls or whatever, never taste anywhere near as good as when you get it freshly made.

no. no. it's not keeping me from trying it.

it's just my only experience with thai.

seriously, the only reason i haven't tried it is because i wouldn't know what to order....which is why i wish i knew someone who could introduce me to it.

however, there is a thai place that recently opened up here....maybe i'll just venture in by myself.... if you're telling me it's THAT worth it.

You should try out the Phad Thai for your first step into the brilliant world of Thai cooking. It's hard to mess up and is a good stepping stone for people that aren't real adventurous. A really good phad thai is breaktaking...

gawd, I love Thai.

Best dishes to eat:

Pad Thai (Noodle with some peanuts) (good for beginners, I ate that exclusively for a log time, and then got adventurous)
Panang Curry (soupy and good with white rice)
Basil Fried Rice (Nice and spicey, and I don't eat the peppers)
Garlic Chicken (served with white rice)
Pad Woon Sen (Glass noodles in oyster sauce) [Personal favorite with soy sauce]
Cashew Chicken (usually a really good sauce do not eat the spicy peppers in it)

ok, I'll stop now, because I want some.

they have 2 kinds of spring rolls

one is fried like an eggroll but better (can be veggie or meat)
the other is served cold, with some good dipping sauce, recommended of you like veggie stuff.

pad thai is a flat rice noodle with a sweet sauce, and vegetables and a choice of tofu, beef or chicken. it has peanuts on the top

any dishes can be made spicey with usually a scale of 1 to 10

That is true -- it is not indicative of all Thai food.

You guys have me hankering for some Thai, damit. I love Thai, my favourite kind of food.

You forgot that the gravies aren't as heavy (in a good way). But otherwise, this is a really good description.

Sometimes more vegetables -- depends on the restaurant, and the dish.

What is this Garlic Chicken? Not available at any Thai restaurant I've been to...perhaps it's a Chinese/Thai hybrid dish?

Maybe you stayed on the beaten path or dined their equivalent of 'upscale' restaurants, but it's practically on every menu. All joints (seedy or proper) I ventured offered a version of phad thai. Pretty much a staple appetizer or side dish, to be sure.
