It would be nice if the encore became something special again.

my thoughts exactly. i very much dislike when a band walks offstage after 45, 50, 55 minutes and then comes out for the planned encore that always includes, like, two hits and another really good song. and seeing dashes on a set list that indicates an encore is annoying too. if the crowd is good, they are owed an encore of at least one song. if they are awful, they are not. that should be a bonus. i saw kasabian last year and they didn't do an encore. the crowd was also awful. i thought it was justified.

Would love to see both of these bands.

supposedly they're getting ready for an austrailian tour?

Yeah, they're out here as of this weekend. I just realised that I could possibly swing having a night in Sydney to see their sideshow (also with Hold Steady and Thunderbirds Are Now. Anyone have any opinions on either of these 2 live?)

However, I'm still seeing all these bands at St Jeromes Laneway festival weekend after next.

The only time I've seen Les Savy Fav was Nov '04 with Pretty Girls Make Graves. The show was at a ~800 size club with a balcony type area that ends about 15 metres max from the stage. Conveniently there was a ladder leaning against the speaker stacks so Tim took it upon himself to grab it, run into the crowd and climb up to the balcony, then walk around the edge of it. By this stage of course he was down to some very tight + short shorts, so of course some of the girls on the balcony proceeded to try and pull them down.

This was on top of various other shenanigans that others have mentioned. It was an awesome show, especially since my bro had just finished high school so came down to visit and see them. Not a bad first "indie" type 18+ show!

Oh, and the other great thing was Les SAvy Fav's their local label/promoter organised a secret harbour cruise for the next night with free pizza and possibly alcohol. I was very pissed that I was moving back home from uni that day so couldn't go. By all accounts it got very silly as well

the hold steady is usually pretty good live. craig has a good rapport with crowds and tells some good stories that are sometimes even relevant to the songs. one thing to watch is their alcohol consumption throughout a set. thunderbirds are now have been okay live, but if you're late because of traffic, don't beat yourself up over it, as long as you don't miss the hold steady. of course, neither stacks up to les savy fav live.

I could get behind that statement. Everyone seems to come away from their show with a different story to tell. And of course they aren't all shenanigans, either. The band fucking rocks.
