Not a good idea on a day like this now.

I suggest switching whatever plans/appt/what have you that needs you to leave early.

Or else watch your ass get chewed out.

No, Bubba, that is the path of least resistance, and will only get you a one way ticket to nowheresville.

Don't ask: Just leave. Then make it your mission to openly mock the most superior person to you in the company to which you have regular access.

Don't let 'em see you sweat.

Yeah but apparently you aren't aware that he gets in serious trouble/put on probation at this place at least once a year.

Heck I'm surprised they still let him work there. :P

That's spirit. I don't think I've had a job where I could've pulled that off.

One of the best things about working here (and in most journalistic fields, truth be told) is the extremely casual and cavalier nature of things. Insults, passive-aggressive insubordination, long lunches, none of it matters much if you can deliver the copy when they need it and know when to put the fun and game aside to get down to real work.

After working here, I doubt I could ever be a 9-5er. I'd go nuts.

I'm more in the Loogar Camp. Show 'em who's boss. Asking for examples will only put them on the defensive, plus they are going to tell you some shit you are obviously not wanting to hear, since you already disagree with the assesment.

Plus, saying "What are you gonna do about it, fire me?" with a verbally blowing it of then walking away is an awesome feeling.

Yeah well, I did get one. Apparently some of the VPs are pissed off at me because I didn't go to our NYC Chapter for an event they were organizing. I didn't go cause I felt that I didn't need to be there and made it known to them. Since then, I've been hearing stuff from some of my co-workers, that the VPs want to replace me yadda yadda...

Well, that is a bit childish

Sounds like they want you to be a 'good ol boy', and now that you have shown you are your own person, they are not pleased

If you aren't leaving early for a job interview, you should be.

I disagree. They are pissed that he determined he didn't need to be there, and let them know about it. Sounds to me like he misjudged the situation.

I mean, if the situation is that they think OPA ain't a team player, it's hard to argue with it on the evidence we've been given. DO you like the job? (I honestly don't know.)

Attitude? Fuck off!

You're better out of it if they are just going to be a bunch of knob ends.

i don't know, if I was a boss I would accept "I can't go" much more than "I don't want to go." so it's kind of hard to really fault the boss in this situation.

I also have gotten the 'attitude' talk on more than one occasion. It pisses me off, usually, because when they give me examples of what they say I've done, I can usually think of at least 5 people I work with that are ten times worse, yet still get whatever they want. Currently, I'm being 'punished' (cut from 5 shifts to 4, and taken off weekends completely) for being 5 minutes late. During the second week of January. So I've been being 'punished' for this for 6 weeks. Meanwhile another of my coworkers is habitually over a hour late or has to be called and woken up, and actually called in one morning because he'd stayed up all night drinking and snorting the powder... this is the same employee who sold a beer to an underage narc last year. But nothing happened to him. I'm looking for another job now.

If you're still where you were, and if the same tall, long/curly-haired motherfucker is running that place, he's a grade-A tool. Drove a '66 blue mustang back when I was about.

I asked him to borrow a container of mushrooms once (for our place 'cross the street)... a Country Crock Shedd Spread-sized container. He walked me down into his cooler, looked at 4 fucking huge boxes, and said "no." Apparently my little tub would've put him out if business.

Fuck that guy.
