Can't find it in me to consider this one "pop". Great song, not "pop".

I see your point, but it's on my Specter Box Set, so I kinda stretched it.

Has Radcliffe hooked you up with The Saints' cover of this one yet?
\

No, but that sounds up my alley, for sure. I saw you drop "Know Your Product" in katie's thread. Great song. I'd definitely like to hear more from them.

I knew this would devolve into a Pop/Not-Pop pissing contest.

My definition of Pop: Something I wouldn't be surprised to hear on a regular mainstream radio station.

Agreed.

I'll throw in a vote for The Ronette's "Be My Baby". I about shit myself when I saw her do this live a few months ago.

Some of those early Beatles songs like "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" and "She Loves You" are sooooo pop. Give you cavities and shit.

Maybe I just find pissing contests interesting, but this critical examination of categories, genres, and relatively qualities, is what makes boards like this interesting.

I think a lot of great "pop songs" I like never would make the radio.

But in the pre-power-pop neanderthally happy love song genre:

"Do Ya", The Move

In the black pop of the golden decades: "Can't Help Myself", The Four Tops

Come on, someone has to like Abba? I nominate 'Dancing Queen' which is an absolutely fantastic record.

Yeah, I can get behind that. 'Fernando' is top notch as well.

And it may please you that I nominate Pet Shop Boys "Suburbia" as an additional "perfect pop" song,

As you no doubt know I love the Pet Shop Boys but although they are 'pop' I'm not sure they are 'pure pop'. They always had a bit of an edge to them.

2. Strawberry Fields Forever
3. Care of Cell 44

Those are the constants. #4 would change frequently.
