I have found at least a reasonable level of enjoyment from every album they've released. So I'm looking forward to the album (out 5/2).

I'm kind of interested to see what they're gonna do now that they're off a major.

They're pretty much the only noteworthy band from the grunge era still together, aren't they?

Yield's far and away my fave album

I'll toss this out to you all since I'm debating it in my head.

Should I play "Deep" tonight @ the pub?

Not an obvious track, but a good one off their most popular record that all the 20- and 30-somethings can appreciate.

I'd play "Porch" instead.

Sort of on the subject but I heard a radio commercial (on Sports Talk Radio mind you) with Mike McCready for I guess the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation.

I was only half paying attention but there was a mention of anal bleeding.

Yep. He's got a case of the perma-shits. Talk about your mad season!

"Glorified G" is a 9:30-10-ish track; jaunty, carefree, kind of a novelty for them.

I'm thinking of "Deep" as a post-12:30 track; BIG guitar intro to grab your attention but after that you can ignore it as background music and get more drinks, or get really into it if that's your thing.

Not sure what I'd do w/ "Porch".

I'll report back.

I'd open up the segment when the most people are there. Maybe usher in the midnight hour.

i turned so many people on to Pearl Jam, and then they got mad at me when i was sick of them by the time Vs came out.

i still have a huge soft spot for "porch" but don't have much desire to listen to most of what they do.

Three, if you count the matinee. Try the veal.

I have that and dig it, though it's not on the iPod at present.
If I get a chance to head home before I head to the pub, I'll throw it on there and see what happens.

i had a friend that was HUGE into them - esp their later stuff. i just couldnt get into it. seems like (to me) once they started battling ticketcrapper their music suffered + got worse. plus what the hell was up with them releasing a bizzillion live records?? was that really needed? foolish if you ask me.

I've said this before, but I respect the fuck out of PJ because they basically rejected their popularity and started doing whatever the fuck they wanted as far as band albums and side projects yet they still BANK on live shows (which is where the money is in the music biz anyways).

I won't claim this as an original thought b/c I read it in a Spin article but Pearl Jam is like the Grateful Dead or (my thought) Phish---fuck album sales, put on a great live show, make whatever records or side projects you want and fuck the music business. Shit, watch that Wilco doc, their manager basically says the same thing.

And they do put on a hell of a live show.

There for a while I thought that Yield was the best thing they'd done. I've slowly moved to the No Code camp over time. Also, as overplayed as Ten is, it still holds up.

if you're talking to me--no. I just think that they made a conscious effort to distance themselves (no videos or whatever) from normal music business shit.

Though the "Do The Evolution" video is quite honestly one of the coolest things in the video genre EVER.
