I used to take pleasure out of putting on records that I knew were going to get a reaction while working at the record store.

Antony And The Johnsons usually just got weird looks.

Daniel Johnston received some "what the hell is this?" from some older guy buying typical classic rock. But after a couple of songs, he actually turned into "this is actually pretty good" and ended up writing down the name to look up later.

Joanna Newsom was, by far, the best though. No matter what time of day, no matter what demographic was in the store, if I put it on, I knew I was going to get at least one "what the fuck is this?" comment.
