I often (two-three times a week) skip dinner and go to bed hungry. Don't know if this qualifies as fasting, but it actually does clear my head a bit. At least, it helps keep priorities realistic.

sounds interesting but i don't think i'd have any friends afterwards. i get so crabby when i'm hungry, i don't even really know myself.

Yeah, me too. An hour or two past the 4-hour "no-food" mark I become completely insane.

Yeah. This whole fasting thing would never work for me. Anyone who's ever spent time with me can tell when I'm hungry; I become a cranky bastard.

"Crabby hungry" over here. I give the warning and people stay away.

I tried a raw food diet once. It worked really well and I lost a bunch of weight (presumably water weight) in the first week. I've never felt better, but it's way too strict for me. I lack the discipline to stick with it.

update: Well, I made it to 48 hours but just barely. It felt pretty good for the most part except for that last hour where I felt a little woozy in traffic. I am happy to report that I am now eating food again. I'm going out for PANCAKES this morning!

That was almost four years ago, when I was at my most gluttonous, but I can still lick any vending machine in the house.

After I was diagnosed with diabetes, and before I went to a nutritionist, i was so scared of food, that i went on a lettuce and water diet for two weeks.

I was diagnosed with gallstones two years ago and, because of a scheduled and paid-for vacation, put off the surgery for a month. I went a month under extreme stress, worried about eating fat, so I just didn't - no excess fat. I worked out that I was eating between 10 and 15 grams of fat a day, but didn't even pay attention to calories. I lost 15 pounds that month, including being on vacation, doing absolutely nothing other than skipping fat. Amazing. Of course, as soon as I recovered from the surgery, I gained all of that back - and more - quickly! I have no idea how I managed to cut back on fat so strictly - I sure can't do it now. I guess I need the threat of excruciating pain to make me eat well.

I lost 75 pounds about ten years ago in a completely irresponsible manner. I went 3 days once and felt pretty good.

Beer has saved my life time and again.
