I discovered recently that several of my friends in various east coast cities actually lurk here. Kinda funny.

Lady KPH knows plenty about it and sometimes even thinks it's a good waste of time.

My husband knows about it, and as Loogar said, is bemused and disdained. He knows it's called obner, but usually I say something like "someone posted something really funny on the music board the other day" blah blah blah. Other friends know about it, but not all. I've tried to talk other friends into joining, but either they are either (a) not interested, (b) too shy or (c) don't like wasting time at work like I do.

So, a lot of THEM go to your second school, I see.

I call it my "music nerd board".

My man knows about. Guess he's indifferent about it . Maybe thinks it's a little weird went I say things like: "Here's a pic of the Flaming Lips my friend Tania posted."

He was impressed recently though when I posted on a local board & got info re: tickets.

My old band knew about it. I told them knowing none of them would ever check it out. Even they though I was a nerd when I mentioned it.

Oh well.

Got caught checking it out by a co-worker once and was worried she'd want to join. She seemed pretty enthusiastic about it. Yikes. (Luckily I didn't let her see the URL.)I don't really want to 'share' it.

Seriously, I don't care if any of my friends know about it. We are in a computer age, after all. Pretty much all my friends already know about it anyway...including family.

I think most of my friends, my girlfriend, and family know that I post on a couple boards. I don't think it's that strange in this day and age and never thought to be embarrassed about it.

Also, as a couple other have mentioned, I've actually met a couple people through internet boards who turned into solid "real life" friends.

i might mention somebody from the board in passing as "a friend of mine from chicago" say when i'm listening to one of phil's tracks and somebody asks me who it is. do i bring this up with other people in my life? no. save a few who i might hook up with a copy of an album i get from somebody here but that's rare.

My wife fears that one of you is coming to my house to kill me in my sleep. Of course, she's one of those people who can't really remember her own e-mail addy.

I don't talk about it to my friends because none of them know what good music is.

My wife knows, but I still refer to it as "CMJ" for her benefit, saving myself from the potentially self-incriminating task of having to explain "Obner" to her. I think I've met enough Obnish for her to no longer fear me being thrown into the Hudson River in a SAAAACK!

the only time i really mention it to anyone not on the board is when i'm asked where i found a good link, band, or song that i passed onto them.

when i see people from the board in real life, threads do sometimes come up, but i like to keep that talk to a minimum. if i want to discuss a thread, i'll post in it. otherwise, i'd rather talk about anything else.

The wife knows (of course). Otherwise, I mention it sparingly. And almost never by name, of course.

The wife views it as competition for her time, until she needs something from it, at which point she says something like "you need to ask obner what music magazines are still any good" or some such.

I just call it "this music board i go to" my gf knows and doesn't care and i'll mention it to friends and family and they don't really care except my dad. I told him i might meet up with some folks in Milwaukee before a show and told him they're from "this music board i go to". He freaked out. "You know what they say about people on internet boards. There are a lot of crazy's in the world. blah blah blah". I won't mention it in the future.
