That you and I probably think similiarly in our appreciation and deification of the Pixies, I just feel more like billyg now whereas the FB solo shit has never grabbed you. No biggie.

...somehow I only have 1, 3, 9, and 10. But I'd put Ray above Honeycomb.

Ayah, you neeeeeeed Teenager. I'm trying to think of an album from the 90's I like more, and only Siamese Dream is coming up so far.

Honeycomb is the only FB album I've heard (like it quite a lot). And, while the admission might bring on universal derision and contempt, I have never heard a Pixies album of any flavor.

Which two do you have? Let me see what I can do to help you out with obtaining some more Pixies/FB stuff.

Prepare yourself for 22 songs, bout 2 minutes each, of overwhelmingly catchy nature. Some a little more chill, but lots of eager, aggressive, hard-hitting, poppy guitary goodness. Lyle Workman plays guitar on that one, and it's one of my favorite guitar albums... twisty, off-balance solos, where he sounds like he's gonna veer off the road and lose it, but never does.

Must've played that on "SO Loud" at least 200 times in the car as an undergrad.

I got lucky then, because I found mine used in a T.O. record shop back in '95. If you're real curious, I'll up it for you tonight.

I have a vinyl copy of "Doolittle" and a dupe CD copy of "Surfer Rosa", which I haven't been able to find for at least a year and never really got to know very well, but I do like "Doolittle" a lot. I got no Frank.

I should make a FB mix but it would be all the big anthem songs like "Freedom Rock" and "If It Takes All Night" Maybe I'll give it a try.

My 1 and 2 are pretty much interchangeable, but I'd rank 'em like this:

1. Black Letter Days
2. Teenager Of The Year
3. Dog In The Sand
4. Show Me Your Tears
5. Frank Black (s/t)
6. Pistolero
7.The Cult of Ray

9. Frank Black & The Catholics (s/t)
10. Honeycomb
11. Oddballs

I prefer the best of FB's solo work over the Pixies, but I don't hold the Pixies as sacred as some of you. Probably because their appearance in my life didn't coincide with the arrival of pubic hair.

Took me a while to buy the snake oil Bloor was selling, FB is a monster.

Black Letter Days, and teh opener Black Rider (a Tom Waits cover, kids) is in your face jail rock of the highest order.

Black Letter Days is my fave solo album.

I'm really surprised that you don't have the s/t Catholics album ranked higher. I think that album has some Great (capital G mind you) songs on it. Also, after the dissapointing Cult of Ray, I remember literally losing my shit when it came out. One of his better tours as well.

At the time I was more disappointed in the stripped-down live-to-2-track approach of FB and the Catholics than I was in the scant pickings of Cult Of Ray - but then again, I consider a bunch of songs on C of R as good as anything on Teenager of the Year (ie: "Men In Black", "You Ain't Me", "Jesus Was Right", and "The Last Stand Of Shazeb Andleeb").

But those ranking are all relative. FB and the Catholics might be at #9, but that doesn't mean I don't like the hell out of it. 'Cuz I do.

Black Letter Days all the way, but I have probably only listened to half of his output. I like the Pixies less as I get older.
