Maybe it'll be time for another Obner musician mix cd by the end of the summer - and I still want us to think about an Obner day show next SXSW.

I also think this is a good idea. as long as someone other than me puts it together. hopefully my Marky Marky & The Funkingtons album will be done by June.

Don't covary the good stuff, eh? I hope you have a lot of POWER and the EFFECT SIZE is massive.

Album should be a called 'The Three Way Interaction - A Mongerous Life'

I've been taking some time to figure out what my next step is since my band dissolved back in September.

I've been slowly working on writing and demo-ing stuff on my own here at home. Not sure what direction it will all head in but I'm happy with what I have so far.

In the meantime I sang backing vocals on a song on the Raising the Fawn record and then at their record launch which was fun; and I also have a couple of friends who moved here from France and who want me to play with them in their project so I've been meeting up with them and trying things out.

Zzzabout it. "Slowly but Surely" as Holly Golightly would say.

Considering how loud practice has been, I hope that we have a lot of power, too!

Actually, I already plan for the first album to be entitled Marginally Significant.

Yeah, I am a total superfan completist with their stuff, the whole band knows me by name, and I always confuse them at live shows by calling for something super obscure that they aren't always able to play for me. Just emailed Aaron to see if there's a time we can get together next week.

My life is a choose your own misadventure.

1. Quit/Pursue Music
2. Chicago/A-TX/L.A.?
3. Grad School?

Anyhow, I'm playing with Graham Cousesn, that's awesome, and The Effingways, and Starina and The VelJohnsons, and subbing in a couple other bands.

Just feeling a little lost.

I strongly approve of that title. I would fund this album.

Just keep your head up, Phil - you are one of the most gifted musicians I know (Unlike me, a marginal hack who just needs to play in order to keep his soul above the low tide line). Keep on playing that good music you play.

As I understand it, sometime in July. We're doing a residency at Pianos in NYC that month, so I guess the album's coming out then as a tie-in or maybe I have that the wrong way around?

I don't know the whole lineup yet but hopefully soon. I hope we get paid in ribs.

I'm contemplating putting down the music.

Going to grad school... maybe pharmacy, finance, something easier than medicine or law that'll still get me some cash in the end.

I don't know. Maybe I'm too pussy to quit.

Just give yourself a little time.

I was pretty sure I was going to quit. But I seem to have realized now that I need to get back to a place where I'm reconnecting with the essence of what I love about music----and letting go of the rest of the bullshit.

you'll find your way back, I know it. :)

the pilots basically took march off of because of my getting married. We have shows scheduled in chicago:

5/26 - Beat Kitchen w/ Lowry (Brooklyn) and The Bowmans (NYC)
6/3 - SK fest
6/11 - Chicago Ribfest

and more TBD and hopefully touring in the fall. our current drummer is leaving us at the end of june which sucks bad but we've had a couple rehearsals w/ a new guy and he's great. so, outside of the shows, we're trying to record at least an EP with our current drummer before he leaves.

If I get the gig booking shows for Duffy's Tavern in Lincoln, I will definitely be contacting you about a show. Whoever replaces the current guy will be starting sometime in June. I'm not sure what size of venue you guys are used to playing, but this place usually holds about 150-200 people.

if you really quit - a good way to make some money is in health care. pharmacy as you mention, but look into radiology tech - my wife manages a radiology department at a hospital and these fools make cash and can get a job anywhere (and get their relocation paid + signing bonus).

Did you pick my age on purpose?

Phil's smart enough not to have kids but point in general is valid. Now's the time to pursue your dreams...life gets more complicated as you get older and taking risks is much harder. If you can't gamble a bit on what you really want to do now when you aren't making a ton of coin, aren't leaving a job you love, and don't have a ton of expenses, when can you ever?

he speaks the truth but it can be rather boring.. well watching the rad techs on the MRI scanner at my post-doc made me think so..but yeah, a good tech pretty much has his/her say in where to work from what they were saying..although who knows the truth to that

Ahh, I just haven't played in a while, that's all. Maybe someday, I'll be in a Foreigner cover band.

But I don't miss it. Much. Especially load in/load out. It sucked being a drummer.

Thanks for the sympathy, tho!
