i'm not sure about studs lonegan. i love a lot of it because it takes place in chicago near areas i grew up. it's good though becuase it runs through history.

i'm almost positive you'll like jesus' son. read that one first.

Summerland was technically a juvenile book. Not as much gay sex.

Meh to that list.

Might as well throw The Bridges Of Madison County on the funeral pyre as well.

There was also The Final Solution not too long ago. And The Yiddish Policemen's Union should be out in January 2007.

Morrison is pretty great... not my favorite cup of tea, but certainly a powerful and skilled novelist... her critical praise is a result of her talent, not her gender and race... that's nuts.

What this list does (although all of the Delillo is great) point out to me that the great fiction in English of the last 20 years is not American...

McEwan, Ishiguro, Julian Barnes, Colim Toibin, Rushdie, Margaret Atwood, Patrick McCabe... and my current favorite, Magnus Mills... all better than most of this American list.

Forgot about that one. It was OK. Just about 100 pages and seemingly more an exercise in genre writing. Still not a proper follow-up in my book.

I read Roth's the Human Stain and it was fucking awesome.
I don't disagree with any of these, I am a little surprised with how few I have read.

I want to have Jhumpa Lahiri's babies. She is too young to really have made a sigificant mark but damn girl. damn. She'll be up there.

F. Scott Fitzgerald is still my all time favorite.

John Updike wrote a letter to me the other day at work. it was crazy.

Is that Laura's new sobriquet?
