Thanks for the hookup, DumpJack.

If this is anything for me, it's a grower. Lots of great-for-what-it-is-but-not-necessarily-my-thing comments after the initial listen. Never really hooked me in. "There Is An End" is the main highlight. Stay tuned.

I just listened to this whilst driving around.

And now I am posting from PRISON.

the first song plays kind of like a Mick Jagger solo joint -- its good, cos its jagger, but its a little over-produced, and maybe indicative of a good idea that doesn't turn out like it should in the abstract.

then it gets into real Ronnie. Lots of WHOA-OH-OH's in the background, nicer production (more wall-of-sound-esque), etc.

and then Keef and Ronnie show upm and I get thrown into the Macon County jail.

I knew you'd dig this, man. I know I'm probably in the minority in terms of enthusiasm for this, but I just think it's fucking great, a definite Top 10 for me, no question. And I'm just happy to hear her singing, that's all.

This has been re-upped for anyone else who's interested.

I finally gave this a listen yesterday, and it is good (though perhaps a tad overrated by Dumpjack). One song, "Hey Sah Lo Ney," sounded particularly familiar. I soon remembered that it was also done as "Hey Sailor" by The Detroit Cobras on their fantastic Life, Love and Leaving album. Ordinarliy, I'd just consider that a neat coincidence, but take a look at the album covers side by side...

I've got conflicted views about this. It'll need repeated listens.

There are 3-4 REALLY GOOD tracks, a couple of cringeworthy ones, and the rest are not bad.

Have you ever heard The Detroit Cobras' version? Ronnie's is good, but The DC's is PERFECT. If you don't have any of their stuff, let me know, Chuck...you will LOVE THEM. Rachel Nagy's got pretty much the best non-Neko voice in the world.

'Girl from the Ghetto'. I think it was an late 80s or early 90s song pop song that Ronnie takes and turns into a big fuck-off to Phil.

Yeah, she pretty much did everything short of dropping a Lana Clarkson reference in that song. That's the most direct "fuh u" I've heard in quite some time.

I actually got a few Detroit Cobras albums, but the song didn't register with me as one of theirs. I'll have to go back and spin those again. And yeah, her voice is fucking great. They've got some excellent songs.

I can't honestly say why this album resonated with me. It's just the quality, call it JAIL, call it something else, I don't know. It's Ronnie fucking Spector, I guess. I've played this album incessantly since I got it and I'm not sick of it at all. I guess I just like hearing her sing and am glad she's making music again. Did I overrate it? Nope, I can't say I did, but maybe my bar is a bit lower than the mean rank around here.

So... I still need this.
