I listened to Mingus Ah Um this morning which completely fulfilled every expectation I had. Really, really amazing. I also snagged Blues and Roots and Pithecantropus Erectus too but haven't had a chance to listen to those.

Ah Um and Mingus x 4 are both stellar. You'll be safe with those two.

Also, Duke Ellington - Money Jungle with Mingus on bass and Max Roach on drums is f'n mindblowing.

One more vote for Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus. One of my favorite albums of all time. I got this first, so these are my preferred versions of the songs originally on Ah Um.
