Good music is always out there mingling with everything else, you just have to be willing to hear it.

I was introduced to the Jayhawks and David Garza because of matchbox twenty and Jude and the French Kicks thanks to a local radio station I was listening to at the same time.

the way i look at it, it just means more people are starting to realize what quality music is.

That's true - one of those "now that's what I call hits" records was at #1...

I ordered the "Crazy" 12" as soon as it came out, and was pretty sick of that song when I finally recieved it a week and a half later... Not a bad song, but can you say overplayed?

If indie is the new mainstream does that mean I'm going to have to start listening to Creed again to be cool?

Not at all...

It's a widely known fact that Commercial Hip Hop is the new "indie cred"...

If I go to one more party/show/etc. where "indie" kids are imitating Young Jeezy like they're the first ones in the world to yell out "Jeah!", I don't know what I'm going to do...

this just means that the big record labels will start looking for the indie-ish/alt clones that are making it big. just as nirvana/pearl jam somehow begat candlebox which somehow later begat creed, i'm sure thom yorke /radiohead will do the same.

oh wait, we have coldplay, travis, keane, snow patrol, muse... (not saying all those are crap, i'm just disgusted with the "let's put out as many clones as possible" routine.)

Good to know. I'm all ready the whitest girl ever to be caught showing off my mad skillz in the form of a Ludacris song in public.

People on the outside of this indie culture usually perceive people like "us" as snobs and criticize us by saying "I bet you'll hate that band when they get big." I guess it's a good thing that you feel the way you do? Is the tide turning? No, probably not. Carry on.

I can't think of a single indie thing about Johnny Cash.

He released his first couple albums and several of his recent ones on independent labels, and defied the conventions of the mainstream country and rock genres of his day.

Unless you're using the increasingly popular, cynical, sneering definition of "indie" that implies "sounds like Broken Social Scene" but doesn't really mean anything.

Plus the album tthorn is referring to was released on an independent label. Other than that, there is no reason why the new Johnny Cash record should be considered an independent release.

Let's not get too carried away. James Blunt, Rascal Flatts and the cast of Disney's "High School Musical" soundtrack are the top-selling artists of 2006 thus far.

we don't update our charts until thursday mornings. but we know the day prior which ones will be topping it when they are, in fact, updated.

http://billboard.com/bbcom/news/article ... 1002875674

one particularly funny note is that, while indie-typeish artists are still making good numbers, "now 22" still managed to move nearly 400,000 units, about 300,000 more than yorkes rekkid.

and while we're on the topic, "the eraser" is boring.

Not only that, but it's nice to see bands you dig make some dough.

Definitely. Though I'll second hating when concert venue sizes, and ticket prices, increase with it
