I'll give em props for even attempting to tackle a list like that but Bobbie Gentry at #144 is a fucking travesty.

Oh the music geek jizzing that was discussed at Pitchfork HQ for this list.

So far, I'm kinda surprised they picked "Sunny Afternoon" by The Kinks. If I could only pick 5 Kinks songs from the '60s, that one wouldn't even come close, but it's a great song anyway.

Just out of curiosity what ones would you put above it? I can only think of Waterloo Sunset personally although I'm not sure it would be my #2. It would be up there though.

Not impressed with the list that much so far...seems like they are trying too hard, but I generally agree that song lists are pointless.

I don't really know offhand although "Waterloo Sunset" would definitely be one of them. I could place "Shangri-La", "Victoria" (both of which they did place above "Sunny Afternoon" so far), "Arthur", "Death of a Clow", "David Watts", "Johnny Thunder", "Picture Book", "Animal Farm", or "Big Sky" in my top 5 of the '60s, but I can't decide which five right now. "Sunny Afternoon" is probably the best song off of Face to Face, but there's just so much to choose from on the following three albums not to mention all of the really obvious early stuff (I'm expecting to see at least one of those on their list).

You know, I'm not entirely sure "Wichita Lineman" isn't the greatest song of the '60s.

I really hate that the Pitchfork site won't load for me sometimes.

I'm guessing Dylan's "Like A Rolling Stone" will be #1. I am also delighted to see "Egyptian Shumba" made the list.

I think I've only visited Pitchfork once this year. Maybe twice. There are so many reviews sites, it's not really necessary anymore to wallow through their attitudes just to find out about stuff.

I don't read the reviews on their site at all. Unless it's an album I'm already a big fan of, in which case I check their number for curiosity but don't bother with the review itself.

I mostly check their daily for the news updates. So I'm curious, for all the Pfork haters, where do you get your news?

the list is good, but doesn't really live up to their mission statement.
