I've been thinking I'd really like to upgrade my PC with a used G4, now this comes along. The question is it worth selling my Ampeg B-15 that I don't use so I can buy it... My G3 Powerbook is just slow and not such a joy to use.

I just think they are more image/brand conscious now.

Huh? God if anyone is conscious of style and image it's Steve Jobs. True, this is a better attempt than the Next or Lisa price-wise, I don't think Apple is going to new heights anytime soon.

I'm proficient on both Mac and PC through my work at work and work at home. For most tasks from the most basic to more intense, I think in 2005 they are very similar if not mostly interchangeable. But, I'll take a PC anyday of the year. Period.

One reason Apple raises eyebrows is one reason that ultimately holds it back. Stylish and interesting to look at, it scares away most average computer users. It's too shiny, too foreign. People want a "cupholder" to put the cd-rom in. They want familiarity. They do not want to learn new tricks like dragging the cd into the trash to eject it or finding which key to press to make the tray slide out from the flat face in the first place.

Exactly. Jobs is back. They are image conscious. You and I are the exact opposite. I'm proficient on both, but will take Mac any day of the week.PCs are slow and boring. Macs are fast and fun. (And EASY!!)

Oh, okay, now I see what you are saying re: Jobs. As far as fast an easy, my PC from 2002 blows both G4s I work with out of the water, plus I can multitask. I mainly prefer PC because it's easy to add/remove hardware at will and I have this habit of running a dozen programs at once. For instance, right now just in the foreground I have:

Firefox with 12 tabs open.
AIM with DeadAIM and 4 tabs open.
Photoshop CS
Mozilla Sunbird
Internet Explorer
Outlook
Adobe Acrobat 6 Pro & Distiller
Winamp on random
InDesign CS
Calculator oooooh...
2 Windows Explorer folders open

I think just typing that list would nuke a Mac. Ha.

Not on a decent OS X machine with anywhere near the equivalent of the processor and RAM of your PC.

I really hate the old Mac vs. PC thing, but the short answer is I hate them both.

Windows XP is fucking horrible for most of the graphics programs I use, but 3D stuff still doesn't work right on Macs, even top of the line G5s. That could be the software developers' faults, though.

Apple customer service is absolutely the worst.

Etc, Etc. I wish my life didn't revolve around computers so much.
