i can't think of a specific song by them that's about sports, but the hold steady have talked about baseball, specifically AL central-related stories, each time i've seen them.

first, it's "ice hockey hair." second, isn't that a term for a mullet? although, the song does have a lyric about a puck hitting the back of a cage.

They don't play that at Fenway? I would have figured the Southies would love that.

i know the NFL has banned it, but i'm not sure about other sports. i'm pretty sure i haven't heard it at a baseball stadium in the last two years, though.

Joe Pernice has a song about Manny Ramirez, though I've not heard it.

Moonshot, baby.

Pega luna, Manny
(Hit the moon, Manny)

Prepara para Papi
(Get ready for Papi Ortiz)

Pega luna, Manny
(Hit the moon, Manny)

Brilla diamante
(Polish the diamond)

And the green wall’s rising
Like a killer in the sun
If he doesn’t judge carom
Than he’s knocking in a run
Every guy wants to be him
And the ladies go crazy:
Manny, hit me home with a moonshot, baby!
Moonshot, baby.

Never heard it, Billz. It's one of those albums I'd pick up if I found it cheap, but otherwise it's at the end of a long list of shit to buy.

Certainly slays "Duk Koo Kim" by Sun Kil Moon.

(Not really. I love that song.)

My nominee is "Basketball Jones" by Cheech and Chong.

"Chris Schenkel...don't say nothin'."

Honorable mention to "A Little Bit South of Saskatoon" by Sonny James, which although it doesn't mention hockey, was featured prominently in Slap Shot. And it also serves as a musical GPS for locating DumpJack.
